hey guys,
i recently bought a LS6 70 Chevelle SS 454 car this september.
i am working on getting owner history of the car.
i am in canada and i recently did a ministry of transportation used car report on the car. it shows the history of the one owner i bought it from here in canada and that it was last titled from Texas in the USA before being transfered to its new canadian owner.
it only states that the last USA title is Texas but no address/name or title#.

i would like to ask the TEXAS owners here if they know of a way to get owner/title history of my car by going to the license office and telling them my VIN# to maybe find info of my Texas previously owned car.
is it simple to do,is there a cost?
any help would be much appreciated.

car was originally bought out of an ATLANTA dealership so it is a USA car.

Due to privacy laws the DMV will not release names of previous owners. :noway:

Not really sure. I lost my title and went to the title place and they ran off a copy of it,and it had the persons name on it.like when you get yours in the mail and then go and when sold give it to someone else.

That's only for current titles Lewis, they don't do title searches due to the privacy laws as posted.

Danny, it might also be tough in that Texas will issue a title on an out-of-state vehice based on bill of sale only, and if that's happened, the title history might not even exist during any gaps...

Your LS6 doesn't happen to be originally dark blue with an ivory interior, does it? 4-speed car perhaps?

John, I work for the Comptroller, not the DMV.

I know TxDot used to allow title searches for individuals but with new privacy laws I'm not sure anymore. You might look at TxDot's web site to get an 800 number to call.

As someone mentioned above, if the car came from another state Texas wouldn't have any information except for it's time in Texas.

Good luck.

I got a Texas title search about 2 years ago. I just had to certify that it was for my own personal use. Unfortunately it ended one owner too soon. Still looking for the elusive first owner.

I lost track of a dark blue/ivory 4-speed LS6 that was around here for years. I was hoping it might have surfaced.:)

Yours sounds like a killer combo. Good luck with it!

UPDATE UPDATE !!! :hurray::hurray::hurray::hurray:
WOW,that was fast.
the texas department of transportation sent me a christmas present today.
i now have owner history dating back to 1983 on my LS6 and the stamped certificate even shows who owned the car before the Texas owner:thumbsup:
here is the history::::::
I have the name/address/zip and title number of the guy who owned my car in Dallas Texas,he had it from 1983 to 1999.
1999 to september 2009 was the guy in Ontario Canada that i bought it from.

Here is the Great news >>> the document also shows the last owner and state before the Texas state. It shows "Zip Specialty" Mechanicsville VA out of the Virginia state being the last owner before the Texas title.
i think this previous owner is one of the owners of Zip products (corvette parts) maybe Wayne Walker?

i will be calling the owner in texas soon if he is still at the same address (crossed fingers)

i think the last 13 years will be possible to get history on as i know that the original owner is in Atlanta and Virginia is next.

does anyone have any contact info on Zip products or an email for one of the Walker's?

Here's the website for Zip products. Contact them through the "Contact Us" link and see if someone will put you in touch with the owners.

That sure is cool. Awesome car. Good luck in your search for the original owner!

thanks Alan,
i emailed Zip customer service and explained the situation.
hopefully someone will contact me soon.
in the meantime i phoned the Texas owner and he still lives at the same address:thumbsup:
we just had a long chat about my car and i got some really great stories and history on the car. he is even going to send me photos of the before and after paint job that the car had from original paint to its first paint job.
car still has this paint on it since the early 1980's and my vinyl roof has never been off the car ever !
so many cool stories about my car,
he also told me that the build sheet was discovered before his ownership, lucky he did not throw it out because in the early 80's it was not that important to keep.
cant wait to see those old school photos:hurray:

Update... Viginia state owner is in fact John Wayne Walker founder of (Zip Corvette Products).
talked to the Texas owner and he clearly remembers buying my car in 1983 and when he picked up the car he was stunned to see the ZL1 Corvette and a COPO Camaro that John Wayne Walker had beside my car. pretty cool.
David Walker also responded to my email and told me that he passed on my email and photos to his dad but he doughts that his dad will respond.
i herd that he is not in very good health from other car guys. i wish him all the best in his health.
today i mailed in my Virginia Owner History Report forms and payment. if i get it ,it will track 1983 and back. i am crossing my fingers to see Virginia history going into the Georgia state. if this shows up i will be in the original state of ownership for my LS6 car. 13 years to go and i know that John Wayne Walker owned it in this time but for how long? Update to come.
