: '70 ss dash w/ gauges wiring diagram???
smoke' em II Nov 4th, 09, 11:41 AM I am trying to find a wiring diagram for my '70 SS dash with gauges???
This wiring diagram is not in my '70 GM service manual, '70 GM assembly manual, '70 Fisher body manual or in my Chiltons manual. Only idiot light dash wiring diagrams are shown in all of these???
Please help, as I am getting ready for the big "DASH PULL" this winter, to get all dash componets working again as they should.:D
monte7ocar Nov 4th, 09, 1:10 PM It's fairly easy since there is a 12 pin plug which plugs into the dash and then the pcb takes care of the rest for the dash, all of the dash lights are the same bulbs.
smoke' em II Nov 6th, 09, 3:19 PM Does anybody even sell the wiring diagrams for '70 SS dash with gauges???
Not only would the dash wiring be different, but the "forward lamp" harness would be different with gauges as well.
I can't believe that none of my GM manuals or Chilton manual has the wiring diagrams for '70's with gauges???:D
smoke' em II Nov 7th, 09, 12:19 PM Where to buy wiring diagram information for a '70 SS with the factory gauges (non-idiot lights)???
Wire colors are different for the "dash harness" and "forward lamp" harness, than they are for a idiot light car.:)
'72_Skunk Nov 7th, 09, 1:40 PM I would look farther into your Service manual. In my 72 manual, an addendum to the idiot lights wiring diagram are on page 12-76 figure 93 and 94
monte7ocar Nov 7th, 09, 7:33 PM I have a wiring book for a 70 Chevelle with the idot lights and SS center section. I've looked at both and its basiclly the same thing other then the SS dash having all 12 slots filled in the plug.
smoke' em II Nov 8th, 09, 3:03 AM I have a wiring book for a 70 Chevelle with the idot lights and SS center section. I've looked at both and its basiclly the same thing other then the SS dash having all 12 slots filled in the plug.
Thanks Robert, but I was hoping that someone would make a more detailed wiring diagram for '70 SS dash with gauges.
There is alot of rigging behind my dash and many of my gauges don't work. I am trying to make sure that every thing is right before I install my newly rebuilt gauges.
Also the wiring colors for the "forward lamp" harness with gauges are different than idiot light wire colors. I want to make sure this is correct as well.
monte7ocar Nov 8th, 09, 4:33 PM the engine bay side wiring is the same. if some of the gauges dont work it will be the pcb as there is no wires that go to each gauge.
smoke' em II Nov 11th, 09, 4:23 PM I have a wiring book for a 70 Chevelle with the idot lights and SS center section. I've looked at both and its basiclly the same thing other then the SS dash having all 12 slots filled in the plug.
Are the two extra slots grounds, or are they for the amp and temp gauge???
monte7ocar Nov 13th, 09, 10:44 AM http://www.firstgenmc.com/photopost/showphoto.php?photo=691&ppuser=8&sl=a not sure if that works if not here is a straight link http://www.firstgenmc.com/photopost/showphoto.php?photo=691&ppuser=8&sl=a . If its the idot light dash the printed board will not have tabs in those spots.

Thanks Robert.
The car has gauges and not idiot lights.
Very interesting, that the gauge pac wiring connector has no grounds coming in thru it!!!
Do you know how many ground wires come out of the dash harness behind the gauge pac(3???) . Also, of these (3???) ground wires, how many go to the gauge pac cluster metal housing (1 to the clock housing, out side of the PCB)???
monte7ocar Nov 13th, 09, 3:03 PM I have the one at the headlight switch, there is three grounds that goes to the metal frame work on the dash.

smoke' em II Nov 16th, 09, 11:09 AM Check out WWW.ClassicCarWiring.com (http://WWW.ClassicCarWiring.com)
Thanks Elvis, that was exactly what I was looking for.:beers:
Have you bought one before???
DanD Nov 18th, 09, 7:15 AM We also have Chevelle wiring diagrams in PDF form that you can download on www.peachstatechevelles.com (http://www.peachstatechevelles.com) under "Documents" then "Technicial aritcles". Maybe this can help also. The best part,,, it's free!

Thanks Dan, I wish I lived in your state, so I could join your club. Looks like a neat club.

Thanks Stan:beers:, but that one is also for '70 SS round gauge dash with idiot lights. You can tell, as the printed circut board connector for the gauges has two missing wires from the black plastic connector.
On '70 SS dash with gauges, all of the "ports" on the black plastic connector for the printed circut board are fully filled up (no empty holes).
I am starting to think that GM never published a wiring diagram for these dashes with working gauges. All of my info is for SS dashes with idiot lights.
LevonH Sep 16th, 11, 8:07 AM I know this is an older thread but thought I would add this. I just bought a 70 /71 wiring diagram(s) in colour from www.classiccarwiring.com. Nice piece; laminated correct colour codes and even got, power windows, seats, A/C wiring diagrams. AND it has the gauges!!!!!
smoke' em II Sep 16th, 11, 11:32 AM Levon, thank you for posting this source. I never did find a wiring diagram for '70 dash, engine harness, and forward light harness with dash gauges. I can not beleive that this information was so hard to find for such a popular car.
clm69 z28 Oct 5th, 11, 4:25 PM I believe that the wiring diagrams are correct for the SS dash gauges; it's just that the "wiring" diagram does not include the printed circuit information due to the fact it is not wiring. You would need to look at the connecting plug pin information at that point to have the complete wiring system.
