: 1967 Chevelle 300 Deluxe - whats it worth?
sl10002001 Nov 3rd, 09, 4:59 PM Hey all,
I have a 67 300 Deluxe, no motor or transmission. It does have a 12bolt posi from (I believe) a 66. About 10yrs ago I pulled the body off, POR'd the frame, put the rear end in it, and bought a few parts for it (springs, sway bars). It went into storage until about a year ago when I trailered it from MA down to FL where I now don't have a place to keep it. I hate to think of it out there in the weather so I'd rather sell it to someone who will use it.
Should I part this out? Is there any market for glass, or anything else left on the car? The frame? I am sure the 12bolt could be sold.
Can anyone give me an estimate on what it would be worth as a whole car? Or the bits and pieces? I just want to get it moving, but not give it away in the process...

curiouschris Nov 3rd, 09, 8:17 PM I'd love to have a car like that... anxious to hear what other have to say it's worth.
zeke67 Nov 3rd, 09, 8:19 PM Frame is the same as the hard top.
There is a limited market for the glass, probably more about taking time to sell, rather than price relative to coupe glass. Limited, but it's there.
Interior is different, and you will have a good market for it because there isn't much available in repop. You can probably get more for the interior than for comparable condition Malibu stuff.
Bumpers, grille, small under hood parts and front sheet metal interchange with the coupe.
12 bolt rear is marketable.
These cars go for less than the hard top, maybe get 1/2 of what a comparable Malibu coupe would be. But from the look of the trunk, and considering the frame is POR'ed, this care looks to be in really good condition. Assuming the price you paid was correspondingly lower than a Malibu, you should be able to sell it accordingly and come out fine. One advantage of the 300/Deluxe's is many of them have survived 20-30 years of ham fisted hotrodders modify them, throwing stuff away and trying to clone SS cars and are still mostly in tact. (My 67 is a Deluxe.)
How good is the dash strip and interior dash plastic? How good are the doors? How good is the tail light trim and lenses? (I may be interested if you part it.)
floyd66 Nov 3rd, 09, 8:32 PM car looks too good to part out.
The 12 bolt is a seperate issue since it is not original to the car.
66SSFan Nov 3rd, 09, 8:38 PM I wish I lived closer Paul, I'd be hauling it home!
It's screaming for a ladder bar setup with huge tubs :D
Not sure on value, I don't see many come up for sale around here, but it sure looks straight. I'll guess $3,500.
FLASHED Nov 3rd, 09, 8:57 PM I would not part that out .
BillsCamino Nov 3rd, 09, 9:25 PM Paul,
I'll be passing thru G-ville on the way to the Turkey Rod run later this month.
I'd like to take a look at this car...as a whole...if still available.
hpsherlin Nov 3rd, 09, 10:58 PM 3 on the tree!!!
Pretty cool.
I wouldn't part it either.
jeffschevelle Nov 3rd, 09, 11:45 PM I see the 6-banger emblem on the fender, so I assume the VIN starts with 133 (and not 134) ? It would be worth more if it was a 134 VIN
I like the '67 post coupes, and yours has the remnants of a 3-speed manual. I have a hot inline six going together right now and I'd rather run a manual trans. A friend is willing to donate a T-5. All I need is a place to store it since my '67 Malibu has pole position in my garage already. Hmmm....
sl10002001 Nov 4th, 09, 12:03 PM Hey Guys,
Thanks for the replies so far. So whats a fair estimate of what its worth to someone as a whole car? (well as whole as it is). I know its hard to tell everything from pic's, i just wanted an idea where to start and not give the car away to anyone. But at the same time, its sitting in my yard (soon to move to my driveway) and it kills me to think of it out there...by the time I am able to realistically finish it, I think it would be a pile of rust.
A bit more info on the car...its been in the family since new. It was originally a 250ci 6cyl/3 on the tree. I drove it many miles in stock condition without a single problem, then decided to resto-mod it and had a good start on it... I pulled the engine/tranny out, pulled the body off and coated the frame, put poly bushings in everything, bought the springs/sway bar...the plan was to get the chassis set, then get the body done and put it all back together. At this time, for work/family reasons, I decided to let a hot rod shop finish it...long story short, i was young and stupid and i lost a lot of money and time and the car never got any further. Its been in storage for many years since then, but now that its out in the weather it irks me daily thinking of it sitting out there.
Mechanically I'm sure i can finish this...any bodywork needed i'm 100% inexperienced at so thats a bit intimidating. My plan was to again finish the chassis and then put the body back on and see where I could get with that. But realistically I don't see it in my budget in the near future and the longer the car sits, the more i worry about it.
I have to admit seeing the positive response makes me want to keep it and just try to get working on it. But I know that I'd only have the finances to get a short way into it, and then it would be sitting again and I'd hate to perpetuate that sort of cycle...
I had planned on something mild - 350 GMPP crate engine, overdrive automatic, its got 3:31 in the rear, disk brakes in the front anyhow. But again i just don't see it in the near term finances haha....
I'm in Gainesville and would love to see a project in progress if anyone is nearby...maybe that will kick start me. But if not, let me know what you think this may be worth (again - fair guestimate price to me and potential buyer).
BillsCamino feel free to stop by on your way through - this is going to be a hard thing to let go needless to say haha...
I have email at paul_laplante2000@yahoo.com if thats easier for anyone...

I'm always shopping for 2 dr posts, lately concentrating on 66-67's. From what I've found in the last few month's owners of turn keys are asking $6,500-$17,000. My opinion is yours is worth $1,000-$2500 as a roller with title project. The 12 bolt will add some for the right buyer but others don't know or won't care. If you sell the 12 bolt separately the car might be easier to sell if you stick another axle under it so it stays a roller...........
sl10002001 Nov 4th, 09, 1:38 PM Thx MrChevelle, thats the feedback i was looking for. Def hoping to hear others opinions too as I've been out of this forum so long i don't really know what is fair.
I appreciate all the feedback in general though, thanks guys keep it coming.

Keep it together with the 12 Bolt.
Unless there are some sort of issues I missed or can't see. it looks fairly solid and I think that $4500.00 would be a rock bottom price, could be worth more.
$1000.00 to $2500.00 would be giving it away. 2 door sedans are becoming more popular.
There were some really nice examples of 2 door sedans that have been restored/Resto-mod with big block and factory appearance that were bringing big $$$$.
heres another one

Mr Chevelle Nov 4th, 09, 4:01 PM I think my value estimate is realistic for a project. Start high so you have some wiggle room if you need it. Check in your area for listing that are similar......Below are a few (not all) listings for 1966-67 2 dr posts. I think the last one is high but it's there for you to compare. The ebay car is on it's second time at auction.

hpsherlin Nov 4th, 09, 4:11 PM Cool video, Pat.
zeke67 Nov 4th, 09, 10:58 PM It'd be worth more as a runner than a roller. You could come out ahead to get a motor and trans in there, considering you still have some interest in it. Don't got he crate route, though, you won't recover the investment. A runner would also broaden your market base beyond guys looking for a project.
sl10002001 Nov 5th, 09, 4:02 PM Hey Guys,
I've posted some more pictures of any rust I could find. Basically its where I'd expect - behind each wheel, the front of the hood, and under the windshield. I don't see any under the rear window. The rest of the body looks like it has surface rust here and there but no rot. I also took some pictures of some of the frame and undercarriage, and interior. I am not sure on the integrity of the floors; I started to pull back the rubber matt and see rust but the floor seemed solid when I tapped on it. I'll have to look at this closer. Funnily enough, the headliner looks perfect; perhaps it was replaced but not as long as I've had the car and it looks great. The dash is good too except where some stupid 20yr old cut it to put in a radio about 15yrs ago (me).
Overall I have to say its in better shape than I thought. The frame and most of the body seems solid. Glass is good. I couldn't get any good pictures of the frame in the middle of the car, but it looks the same as the pics I sent of the front/rear.
Given this, curious if anyone has any further thoughts on what this may be worth as it is.
Also, I'm curious - what you guys think it would cost to get this thing into running condition. I'm not talking a show car - minus any body work, what you think it would cost to get a drivable car. I would just want a mild small block and I'm open to tranny type. I've never built a car from this point before and although I can think of the major things and estimate cost i'm sure there are 100x as many things i'm not thinking of that would nickle and dime me.
With the shape of the car, and the positive comments here I'm seriously considering trying to get this thing running. But at the same time, if it is unrealistic financial-wise I'd not want to start something that will sit forever.
So what do you think? What do you think it would take to get this thing on the road?
And if anyone has any updated comments on its current value based on these new pictures please let me know. (i just looked at the pictures and some of them are not the best - if anyone has specific requests let me know)
Any comments are appreciated thanks guys...

hpsherlin Nov 5th, 09, 6:50 PM $25-35K to restore as a super nice driver/show quality car...still not a trailer queen.
To put it on the road?
Leaving the body as is along with the interior and just cleaning it up the best you can you still need:
Engine and tranny $1500 (used) $4000 good runner
Suspension work such as shocks and bushings $400
Engine components such as radiator, hoses, belts, fluids, ignition $500
Safety equipement such as lights, horn, wipers and motor, Ujoints, and Tires $1000
Exhaust $300
Probably forgetting something. Always is more than you think.
I'd guess $6K min to get it rolling down the road reliably, safely, with a good grunt to it. This is with you doing a lot of the installation work yourself.
You could get by cheaper but you could definite go a lot higher also.
Hope this helps you make your decision.
Sounds like time you are ready to end the WIW thread.
Restoration belongs in different categories.
sl10002001 Nov 5th, 09, 9:00 PM Thanks,
Thats the kind of breakdown i was looking for and about in line what i thought as well.
I agree if it goes to a restoration/rebuild I'll move the thread.
But def still considering just selling it; so any more thoughts on what it may be worth as is please let me know.
I'll post it in the classifieds if it def goes up for sale.....
Wylie K Nov 5th, 09, 10:54 PM In nice condition they can be as nicely presented as any SS.

ive got the 67 column with the 3 tree for you
I need the rear window chrome on this sedan :)
juiceman Nov 6th, 09, 3:52 PM Living in New Hampshire ..I would be all over it if it was still in Mass...
Cost to move a roller is very exspensive ...
I do love the potential it has ....
curiouschris Nov 6th, 09, 7:42 PM I think a roller is worth 1500-2500 bucks. The way I see it is you still have to sink a bunch of money into it to get it running. I bought my 68ss roller for 1500 in about the same condition. Im always looking for a good project and that's the price range I think is reasonable. jmo
sl10002001 Nov 12th, 09, 2:24 PM Thanks for all the replies and advice guys; i'm going to kill this and put it up for sale here and on the local craigslist etc.
