I just changed the right rear lower control arm bushings.

Not an elegant or precision process.

Tried drilling and pressing the rubber out. Got em.

Made a support collar by slitting a pc of two in pipe nipple.

Basicly beat the crap out of the rubber with a 1/2 in drill and broke a bit, a bfh, and a press. Had to hammer the arm flat on an anvil before reassembly...

Got the new bushings in and tack welded them to keep them from falling out.

Gotta be a better way....

They make a hand held press, for pressing ball joints in and out. It can also be used to press a-frame bushings in and out, also works on u-joints. OTC makes the one I am most familiar with. Not cheap, but if you do it much it is money well spent. Thomas

I have a four wheel drive ball joint service kit, and used the cylindrical rings on these bushings. Also a small shop press. So brute force is not a problem.

It seems that the rear bushings are only a press fit into one side of the arm?

Hardest part is supporting the arm when putting the new ones in. My split pipe nipple fit pretty good inside the arm. Used a wooden wedge to spread the arm to get the support back out. It just got to be much more of a rube goldberg process than I expected.

As far as supporting the arm, it seems there are no good answers, not that I have found.
I have found never seize or anti seize applied to the outside of the bushing and the hole in the arm, cuts down on the amount of pressure required to seat the bushings. The less psi or bfi = less damaged to the arm. Thomas
