They are pressed in the lower arms. You can use a press and some large sockets to get them out. I think I used a large bench vise and some old hole saws for the spacers last time I did it.

They press in from the bottom of the lower controller arm. Remove spindle from lower ball joint and you will be able to tell more about it. Not a bad job, but if you have never done it before, it can be stressfull. Using a floor jack, raise the car with jack under the spring bucket of the lower a-frame. Seperate spindle from a-frame, using a ball joint fork.
Ball joint can be drove out with a large hammer and a lot of BFI. Clean the hole and end of the a-frame. They make a ball joint press to reinstall the ball joint. Some parts houses do rent them out. Good luck.Thomas

if you are having trouble getting the ball joint out or putting the new one in. Put the whole thing in the freezer for a couple hours. then take it out and try. The sheet metal warms up faster than the ball joint and the small difference in size when frozen makes a big difference in effort to remove or install.

The proper tool kit can be borrowed from a parts store (I have done it with Checker). You put down a big depo$it when you borrow the tool kit and get it back when you return it. harbor Freight has such a kit, but I have no knowledge if it is strong enough to work properly. If the control arm is off the car, a big bench vise can be used to install the new joints.
