I'm looking to replace the 4x6 dash speakers in my 71 convert. I am looking at Polk Audio MM461P and DB461P as well as Pioneer TS-P462. I listened to the DB461P at Fry's and was pleased with their quality. Of course my concern is the clearance in the instument panel area for the drivers side speaker. Does anyone have any experience with these speakers as far as fitting them in? I am hoping that the "plate" design of these speakers will help with the clearance because the magnet is offset a little. How about any success stories with fitting ANY decent 4x6's in there?

Grand scheme ... Ken Harrison 200 watt head unit (KEH-300).
Front speakers wired to 4x6's in the dash.
Rear speakers wired to 5.5 or 6.5's in the kick panels.
RCA Pre-amp outs feeding an 80W RMS amp in the rear driving 6x9's in the rear well (conv.)

Hopefully, when the top is down and totally blocking the 6x9's, I will still get some decent sound from the dash and kick panels.

Any experience with a similar setup??

Anything on 4x6's in the dash?? I'm also ready to install some. Do they fit under the original support brackets???

Anyone?

OK, well there's one way to find out. I ordered the Polk Audio DB-461P's. I'll will update this thread when I find out if they fit, and if so, how much modifying is neccessary. Crossing fingers ...

I would recommend speakers from either Bose, Blaupunkt or Sony Explode. All
these posses excellent sound quality. :)
