Last Sunday someone ran a red light and took out my front fender and bumper. I whacked the brakes hard trying to stop before he hit me. I blew out the front to back steel brake line (sprayed brake fluid all over my newly painted lower control arm - great day huh). I need to get it fixed but I am not sure which way to go. Brake shop can bend up tubing, install and bleed for $150. I can get repro line from NPD or OPGI for $60. How is the repro line and how hard is it to install? It looks like the point where it goes into distribution block is real hard to get to. Thanks in advance for your help. Not a good week so far, might get better when I see the insurance adjuster.

if you order the brake line, it will take a little while to get it and they you will have to install it and bleed the system or pay someone to repair it for $150.00 fairly quickly. If you are the type that does all your own work, send for the line and do it your self.

Steve,
I got a whole set of stainless steel lines for my '72 for around 175 bones from Fine Lines (finelinesinc.com). I also had to replace the front-to-back line. I'm by no means an accomplished mechanic, but my buddy and I were able to install in an hour or two.

Thanks for the advice. I went and ordered the line from NPD. Should be here Monday. Old line was in there good, but I was able to break it loose with a flare wrench. Hopefully routing the new line through the frame won't be to big of a PIA. The rear reservoir on the master is bone dry. Will I need to bench bleed it to get all the air out? The only good news is that 67 was the first year for the dual master cylinder, otherwise I would have had quite a surprise the first time I tried to stop getting home. No fun driving with front drums only.
Thanks again.

Holy s**t!!
Can you provide details? Do you have modified brakes (big MC, power boost, etc), original rear line? Line damaged or previously re-bent? New lines (from who?) ?
Some of us would like to know the 'hows' of your experience for prevention...at least I would.
Please share!

Brake system is stock. The brake line actually looked pretty good except for one little spot where it goes through the frame and turns toward the connecting point to the hose. It was rusted inside the gravel guard. Very hard to see. When I laid on the brakes hard, the line split at the rusted spot.
You are right everyone should check their lines and hoses especially if you have a single reservoir master.
Got a new line from NPD and put it in. Fits OK. Need to do a little more bleeding to get it right.
