I have a 12 bolt that appears to be 66 but only has one hole in the spring mount perch. Is this possible?

To me it looks like September 30, 1965 cast date. Well into the 66 model year.

October 15, stamped date. CF axle 1:3.31 posi, B Buffalo, E eaton. makes sense.

BUT, only one hole in the spring perch?

Looks correct. The hole was used for a bolt/nut to retain the plate that held the spring.

The 65 12 bolt only had one hole and the spring mounts were apparently carried over into the 1966 model year even with the 745 casting. I also have a 1966 housing (745 casting) about a month earlier than yours with a CW0925 stamping and H225 casting, that has the one hole perches. Some of the earlier 65 castings (9140) were installed in 66s also, but very early.

Thanks Dale

I was under the impression that 65 model year had one hole and 66 had two holes, like this example from my 66. Cast date J 6 5, only 5 or 6 days later.
11 27 stamp on the two hole example, (Nov 27) or 45 days later.

Thanks Bruce, I compared the two perches and the holes in 66 are 1" and 2" from the edge of the flat perch. On the 65 style it is only the 2" hole. I could add it easily if I wanted. But if it is normal, I will just leave it as is.

This is good news indeed. I just drove 9 hours round trip Today to pick it up. The 2 year search has come to fruition. :D

Guess I'll have to verify what my J65 Cast, 11/29 stamped rear has. ;)

Be interested to know, too, Seb. I can't imagine what a second, off-centered hole, would be used for.
