growing tired of trying to get the pitman arm nut and arm off my old box (3 foot extension on breaker and that bolt wont budge)

So looking for a new pitman arm and although the parts houses carry them and there is a wide price gap (from 50-100 bucks depending on vendor) I just stumbled across the pitman arms that Jegs carries and the moog parts they carry show a greasable pitman with zerk installed.

http://www.jegs.com/i/Moog/719/K6582/10002/-1

Any advantage or input on these vs the standard pitman? First time I have seen a pitman arm that looks like it will work with our cars that is greasable, etc and I dont know if there is a real benefit or reason to go with this vs the standard ones from GW, Ausleys, etc.

Thanks

PS - might be able to tell by my actual posts looking for actual data that I am getting down to the nitty gritty on getting my car back together so going forward I will actually have technical questions. :D;)

Try some PB Blaster and an impact wrench.

It's wierd.... sometime the impact will loosen a bolt that I cannot get the old fashioned way. And other times, the impact won't budge a stuck nut (2500HD lugnut) but I can loosen it with a long bar on a ratchet. Now I try it both ways before I give up.

Frame is in the back storage area of a body shop outside and the box / pitman is the only thing left on it and I cant get an impact back there. Many occassions where I wish I had one of those battery powered portable impacts.

Maybe I just need a 12 foot piece of pipe, maybe hook it to the wrench and then tie it to my trailer hitch and drive off. :D

Damn thing is the worst nut I have ever encountered. I through my entire 170 lbs of weight and spaghetti legs at it (both legs on the pipe extension while sitting down) and it still wouldnt budge.

Its been soaking in PB Blaster and Knock loose for two days. If it had a mouth it would be laughing at me. Bastard nut.

Take two good hammers to the job. If we are looking at the nut like the face of a clock, put one hammer on a nut flat at 9:00 and whack the flat at 3:00. This can work pretty well to shock it a bit and loosen it up. Another thing to try would be heat from a propane torch.
I am puzzled by the grease fitting on a Pitman arm. Just where does it set and what does it apply grease to? The Pitman arm on my car has no moving parts, so I cannot imagine what the grease does.

Will give it another "whack", so to speak. More curious now about this pitman with the grease fittings. Havent seen those until just today. Pitman is a non wear part but per statement looks like it uses bearings and such to push grease out onto the pitman shaft and supposedly increases performance (guessing less friction and wear....but how a non-wear part wears is what is confusing to me)

I dont know if there is an advantage or a need but moog and the price is fair so thought I would check before I went after one or the other.

Alan - Thanks! In the event that I do try it out that one is 20 something bucks cheaper than Jegs. I always forget about amazon. Notice how I can even make something like a pitman arm purchase confusing? lmao. When there are options for parts I kind of get stuck and freeze up. Guess its lack of experience with actual parts myself to know what works best and what doesnt but heck, whats TC for if not that, right?

You can buy just about everything from Amazon these days it seems.

I have the same problem as you when there is more than one option available. Guess I only have one-way processing in my brain. Try to process two things and signals get crossed up. lol.

The big difference between that Moog greaseable pitman and your stock one is the stock one has a hole that accepts the male end of the centerlink. This Moog one has the male end, so no way it would accept the male end of the stock centerlink. In short, this Moog pitman won't work.

The only reason that amazon pitman arm has a zerk in it is because its got a ball joint. Chevelle pitman arms accept the shaft part and dont have a need for grease. Its the drag link that has the ball, which requires the zerk.

Just saw Alan beat me to it. :o :D

Buyers beware of cheap metal Chinese imports that are look alikes or even exact matches but cannot matchup to the quality of a Moog part, these imports that are cheap are garbage metals............remember this simple concept...........you get what you pay for. Everytime you see something that seems to good to be true.....it probably is and that goes for all this Chinese bullpoop that keeps coming into this country. Buy American made products as much as you can, where ever you can...... it's your life, and the job you save might be your own.......that Pitman arm is an imported piece of you know what..........buy Moog..........read what the great Bob Rizzi writes, he knows these parts inside and out.
