I am planning to install a factory console (manual shifter) in a 71 Chevelle that was previously an automatic on the column. Question has to do whether the floor hump is the same on all Chevelles and whether or not a factory console will fit the contour of my car.
I have converted to a Richmond 6-speed and have ordered the offset shifter to place the shifter handle in the console but unsure if the contour is the same as factory floor shift model.

The floor contour is positively NOT the same. I have a Richmond 5 Speed (non OD) in a Chevelle. You need the entire hump and boot and boot bracket and console tunnel and all that stuff from a console car. I never got my console working with the 5 Speed other things got in the way of that project.
You MAY and I emphasis MAY have issues with the shifter even with the offset handle. The shifter on all the units available for Richmond seem to sit higher than the stock Muncie shifters. This causes issues with the shifter "guts" hitting the floor. THere are three issues to contend with on this swap...Height of the shifter above the floor, offset (your handle should fix that) and fore / aft positioning of the level along the centerline of the car. There is REALLY not much room inside that console.
FWIW I put a Richmond oin a 66 Vette and had to rig the Richmond mounting plate to make it work because the shifter was up inside the boot.
I suspect you are using the Long shifter because Hurst does no, or did not offer anything for the 6 Speed Richmond. The modification I made to the Hurst mount might be applicable to the Long but I don't know. If you want pictures of the modification (my idea executed and photoed by a guy who I gave the idea to) send me a note at hpexpatriot@yahoo.com.
Gotta go if ya have more questions ...you have the E-mail.
