there were three combinations for the 1970 LS6 air cleaners.

1---open air element (found on regular domed ss hood without cowl induction)
2---dual snorkel closed air element (found on regular domed ss hood without cowl induction)
3---cowl induction air element with single snorkle and rubber seal (cowl induction optioned car)

attached is a photo of all three motor combinations from original unrestored LS6 cars.
notice how all the brake boosters had a silver plating.
posted this for all the LS6 owners who will like to see the three types of LS6 air cleaner varations. enjoy:thumbsup:

So to get this dual snorkle piece that seems to have recently attained more value than Platinum, Did you have to order it as an option ?? Or was it whatever the flavor of the day was at any particular factory ???............. DK.

yes,it depended on the factory plant on what they had in stock that day and at that plant. it was not an option.

Stuff like this is always interesting to review Danny. I had also wondered about the if's, when's and where's regarding dual snorkel vs. open element.

By the way, did you by any chance hear from a local car buddy here named Joe about your car ad on Ebay? He asked my opinion and I "ripped it from front to back" :D Nice car, good luck with the sale.

Danny,
If you disassemble these brake boosters you will see the yellow dichromate that all of these were colored with. Very few boosters still show any remnant of the yellow dichromate on the outside. You will find the coloring on the backside against the firewall and internally. The dichromate dip they used over the clear zinc (silver color) was not very durable.

hi don,no i did not hear from Joe yet.
the car is a real beauty and i never wanted to sell it but i cant keep both cars as i just purchased my triple black LS6 car, this is the only reason i am selling the red one.i hope someone comes to see the car as allthough the pictures are nice it really is a great car to see in person.
i had 2 big name dealers call me though and they would be glad to move the car for me on consignment but i passed them down as i just cant justify bringing my car so far away to them as i am in canada. fingers crossed:thumbsup: thank you for your blessing don.

thank you,i noted this as my LS6 car has the brake booster in the same shape as those 3 photos. mine is the original booster as well and you are correct, after taking a closer look at mine, yes it has signs of the gold color on the back side. mine has the delco moraine letters upside down on the left side. allways learning new stuff here.
