: Bucket Seat Conversion

I'm about to do a bucket seat conversion and I've got a question about the conversion brackets. Do the bracket do one side per pair or both seats? Also, does anyone have any pics of the brackets welded in? And, are they all that necessary if you don't care about a factory appearance?

I was recently asking the same questions when I installed bucket seats in a '69. The bracket set does both seats and makes the job easier.

One long bracket is used per seat and provides the inboard mounting points.

The outboard rear mounting point, on each seat, is the existing threaded hole in the floorboard. (This is where your bench seat was mounted).

The outside front mounting point is questionable. Some kits come with a small bracket that some people say have to be used to get the seats to sit correctly. My kit did not come with this bracket, nor did I need it and my seats fit well.

When I first bought my car someone had mid 70's camaro bucket seats in it. So I already have holes drilled inboard. If the outboard lines up will I think I'm just going to test fit to see how it lines up with the holes someone added and hope it works. If not I'd still like to see some pics of the brackets welded to the floor. Thanks for your help!

I've got a stripped bucket seat shell out back, I'll take a couple pics and measure the outboard studs a little later.

The placement of the welded brackets is really quite easy. Because one of the existing holes is used for the outboard rear mount this mount is a guide for the rest of the bracket positions. Simply bolt your bucket seat to the mounting brackets and install the bolt into the outboard rear mount position. Then make sure the seat is squared up. You now have the positions that your welded brackets need to be in. At this point you can just tack each mounting bracket in place or use a scribe or marker to mark their positions. Remove the bucket seat from the mounting brackets and proceed to weld in your mounting brackets.

Steve, spent a little bit more and buy the four piece set (one long bracket for the inboard mount per side, and one small square bracket for the front outboard mount per side). There is a reason GM did it this way. Your bucket seats will lean outward and forward (very uncomfortable).

I had to weld in some new ones in my car, because some clown striped out the bracket's threaded studs by using the wrong nuts on them!!!

I will PM you some photos:thumbsup:

I'd definitely appreciate the pics! I went ahead and ordered the 4 piece set last night. After looking things over I really want to do it right and like you said, Smoke' em, the position would be off without the spacing of the brackets.
