My wife always read to our 3 sons (now 25, 22, 19), and one of their favorite books was "Where the Wild Things Are". Being nostalgic, they were pretty interested in the movie. I was interested in how they would take a 10 sentence book and make a 2 hour movie out of it. So we all went and saw it Saturday night.
Well, I think it sucked. My family didn't get it either. Yeah, the monster animation was pretty cool for one minute, but for 90 or so minutes (they didn't make 2 hours), it was pretty boring. There was no plot, it was just dumb. I couldn't make out any kind of story line, other than a little brat making up an adventure with completely random scenes.
It definitely wasn't a little kid movie, but there were lots of people there with toddler to teenager kids. At some points, I was thinking, "I bet this is scaring the H-E-double-toothpicks out of these little kids". I wonder how many recurring nightmares have been propagated by it :)
Anyway, if you are thinking about taking your kids or grandkids, spend the money on a nice hardbound book copy and read it with them instead. FWIW, YMMV.
