Hey guys had a couple questions on how to get my gauues set up. I just got what was supposed to be a chevelle ss but looks like they just threw in an SS dash without finishign up the work on the harness. Basically im going from gauge to gauge trying to get them working agian so far ive got the gas gauge temperature gauge and the oil light working..What i wanted to ask was how do i get the ammmeter to work? Is their a way i can test it and also where do the leads connect to? Any help would be appreicated thanks...Tim

Chevelle ammeters are shunt meters. That is, they measure the difference in potential across a wire. It is calibrated to measure current in a specific wire.

An example: you could hook one side of the meter to the power distribution point and the other side to the starter solenoid battery. The meter would give you a reading but maybe not a correct reading. So, you need to get the wiring diagram for a 72 SS for the exact hookup.

On earlier Chevelles the power distribution point was the horn relay. Verify where it is on a 72.
