Hello,
While under my '72 El Camino tonight, I was planning my front suspension rebuild, I spotted a tag on the upper section of one of the front coil springs. I reached up and played with the tag, it eventually fell off into my hand. I started to look it over, it was covered in black paint and dirt after all those years, but I was able to clean it off a little. I reveiled what I belive to be that spring part number, 3952831 with a letter code of GQ white letters with red background.
Now here's the tricky part. I have one of those GM Restoration Parts Books that picked up a few years ago from a Chevrolet Dealer. I found this part number above with a description that says 1969 Coil Spring Set under model Chevrolet. Now I believe these springs to be the original as lots of other parts are as well as the 71K original miles on my Elky.
My question is this, Could a 1969 spring been used in my '72 El Camino from the factory ??
Also, since I want to replace the springs during the front end rebuild, and I want to stay with the exact vehicle height, could I use this part number for ordering at Eaton Spring ??
And, can anybody identify this part number as being correct for my '71 El Camino, SS, with 350 and AC ???
If not, do any of you have a part number to share of a spring that you used for the above vehicle with those options ?? Again, I want stock original vehicle height maintained.
Thanks for your responses,
David
