hey all, i am restoring the wheels on my 69 ss,i have already blasted and powder coated the wheels argent silver, but when i went to paint the inserts with charchol grey\black paint i bought from ground up it looks more grey then black and i always rememberd those wheels being black on the inserts instead of grey--not to mention every wheel on this and other websites all appear black (where they more than one color?) (is the paint i bought from GU wrong) thanks for any help

This is one of those questions that will have many different answers/opinions. Some say black, some say dark grey, some say black with metallic. I used the same paint from GU and I thought it matched the original paint on my wheels pretty well. Keep in mind, the original paint on these wheels is 40 yrs old, so it had to have changed/faded some, even if it's on a spare in the trunk.

This topic was recently discussed here. Well worth revisiting.

For what it's worth I saw a 70 LS6 survivor this summer. I was surprised at how gray the inserts looked because I'm use to seeing the darker, almost black, inserts. It was definately a true survivor, I know this guy and he has a polebarn full of low milage muscle cars.

I think one problem with the whole color issue is oxidization and fading...

when you guys talk about grey do you mean light or dark grey (closer to black?) the paint from GU is pretty light, (this is a great web site) thanks for all your help
