While attempting to rebuild my door hinges this afternoon, I've discovered that the upper hinges are different between L and R.
I'm hoping someone can tell me which hinge type is correct for a '66 Chevelle?

Thanks for your time...

The left one is the one I see when people send me their hinge set to be rebuilt. I know the right and left upper hinge are the same. I believe the right hinge you have, came off a 64 Chevelle.

Willie;
you may in fact be correct...I was able to locate a similar hinge (right) online which corresponded to a '64/'65. any reason I cannot use this hinge? the door seemed to work fine before I took it off.

Well if it works good for you, use it. If you are wanting to make it look correct, then replace it. I say you have to oil that one hinge good, to see if it has any play in it, before you decide to keep it.

Both of the hinges on my 66 elky were the aluminum ones in the second picture.
Might be a factory thing----might be "as supplies last" thing.
I have a mid July 66 from Fremont, so I would imagine a mid year change would have been on the car by that time. Since this is not the case on my car, I'm guessing "as supplies last", or---perhaps it would be a body specific part number.
Guessing most of the cars here (66/7) are the hardtop versions, maybe the aluminum hinges were only used on 'sedan' type bodies.
The stamped steel hinges were on my 67 Elky partscar, so I guess by then the aluminum run had been exhausted.
