Have an 06 Z71 and having trouble with the 4WD electronics. If the switch is in 2WD it seems to work fine but many times when you re crank it will be in 4L or Neutral and will not shift/actuate out of it. The switch does not respond at all. 4L really bogs the truck down and yesterday would not let it shift thru all gears. Have bought new switch and no change. Got caught away from home and after about an hour messing with it I got it into 2WD and made it home with no problem. Removed switch hoping it stays there till diagnosed and fixed.

Thanx

I don't think it's the switch. There is a solenoid that engages disengages the transmission. I forget the correct name. Mine went out but I had the opposite problem. It would not go into 4WD. This was when I was hunting in the mountains in a snow storm no less. I got it replaced under warranty but asked how much it cost to fix if I had to pay. I think it's around $250ish. I figure it broke that soon after buying the truck it would break again after the warranty expired.

John, I had several software problems with mine when it was new. The last problem I had was the Transfer Case Control Module failed because of the program error. They had only partially completed an update. Mine is an 03.

Sounds like the transfer case control module is failing. The module has to programmed by the dealer to work properly. Unless you know a shop that is quailfied to work on that system then you'll be ahead to take it to the dealer and having it properly diagnosed.Make sure they know you have replaced the switch and had left it unplugged as this will set a false code.

this is why transfer cases shouldn't be electronically controlled- a simple lever on the floor with a good old fashioned mechanical linkage to the case very rarely ever fails and is all that is needed.
