: can you explain B body, G body, F body
bhawk Feb 23rd, 03, 10:16 AM In reading the disc brake conversion posts, everyone speaks in terms of A body cars, B body, G body, and F body. I think I know the A body cars, but what do you mean by G, B, and F body cars, with examples. Or is there a site with all the possible models. I will be boneyard hunting in the spring, and I need to know make and model, as I don't know what a B, G, or F body car is.
T-Man Feb 23rd, 03, 10:40 AM The factory designates body styles with a letter so internally everyone knows what body style you're talking about without getting all of the various models confused. An example is the B body, that's the full size Pontiac, Buick, Olds, and Chevrolet. Those cars now have a different letter designation as they switched from rear wheel to front wheel drive. An old B body Chevy would be a Caprice, Impala, BeAire, Biscayne, etc. F bodies are Camaros and Firebirds, G bodies are the 78 to 88 Malibu, Grand Prix, LeMans, Regal, Cutlass. The A bodies are our beloved Chevelles, also GTO, Skylarks, Cutlass, LeMans. GM used the A body on the early front wheel drive Celebrity back in 82 if memory serves.

bhawk Feb 23rd, 03, 12:32 PM You guys are amazing. What a knowledge base. This site is the best. Thanks all.
Shawn Feb 24th, 03, 9:47 PM All El Camino's were considered G-bodies as well, not only the ones from the 80's. My Caprice is a b-body.

BlueSS454 Feb 25th, 03, 12:32 AM The G body was actually made a body desigation in 1981. 78-80 Malibus, Monte Carlos, Grand Prixs, Cutlasses, were still considered A bodies.
