Not doing it right this minute but eventually when $ allows I am going to put a console in the car.

Do these just screw in the floor or is there some bracket I need to install?

Reason Im asking is Im getting ready to install the carpet and would like to make a provision now in case or is this easy to figure out once I have it in my hands. I dont care if its factory correct or not just stable meaning not real floppy. May have to use an auto as my shifter comes up in the middle of the tunnel not the left side.

I can't speak in regards to a repop console but I would assume it is the same as an original. On the original there is one bracket thet needs welded to the rear portion of the tunnel. It is for the mounting that is done through the storage compartment. There is a post here that has several pics for console installation. I'm sure it can be found through a search. I would recommend an original over a repop console every day of the week.

Im sure they are better but want rediculous money for an original. If the right one came along though that didnt need to much...

Ill have to find a pic of this bracket. Then figure out how to grind this stuff off I had sprayed on my floorboards, its extremely tough stuff. Same thing Benz uses as their soun deadener/undercoat.

I will get you pics during the next week
I have my opgi console base in my 66 and it fits pretty well.
Dunno how the fit of the rest of the pieces are yet tho.
For a manual trans--there are 3 brackets that need to be welded or screwed to the floor.
If you have a TKO by Keisler, some minor trimming MIGHT be needed on the passenger side of the console.

Took the 59 on a trip tonight-----overnight trip to a carshow about 200 miles from home.
I am off all week next week, so I will get some pics for you

Here is the link to the console install.

Bryan: Is the repop mounting different than the original? What are the three mounting brackets? On the original there are only two mounting points for a manual trans. The front screws through the console bracket dirrectly into the trans tunnel and the rear mounts to the bracket that is welded in. I believe even in an auto trans there is only one bracket used because the shifter gets screwed directly to the tunnel and the console mounts on top of that.

Brad,

nope---three brackets on a manual------2 on an AT

the front and rearmost are the same on both.
the center is used on the manual and the AT car uses the shifter mechanism for the center mount. (on 66/7 cars)

the front of the console has a screw on each side that is horizontal.
Center position has a pair of screws under the top cover (hmmm--maybe all 4 rear screws are inside the console compartment)

I'll check when I get back home and post the pics.

Bryan: I think we are talking about different years/style console. I was referring to the 68-72. I am not familiar with the other years and their installation.
