: Missing frame bushing or just an extra hole?

I have a 67 Chevelle 300 Deluxe 4 door. I am the second owner, bought it from the old man that kept it in the garage, it now has 84,000 miles on it.

I am about to replace all the frame / radiator core support bushings. Went out to soak them down with PB Blaster this morning. Counting from the radiator support back, including the radiator bushing. I count 6 bushings on each side. #1 at radiator, #2 behind front wheel, #3 at front door, #4 above rear axle, #5 behind rear tire, #6 at the rear bumper.

But... here's my problem (or maybe not). There is a spot on both sides located at the rear door for another bushing. There currently is no bushing, or bolt on either side. But there is obviously a hole in the frame, a gap above the frame, and a threaded hole in the floor to put a bolt.

Why?

And should I attempt to add one in there on both sides?

Thanks,

tas

Good question. I'm currently doing my 67 chevelle coupe. My car is has the same deal as yours. I would like to know about this to. I think I may put a bushing there anyway. smile.gif

Aaron,

Today I got out the PB Blaster and soaked all the bolts down, but I felt like I wasn't getting any on the nut or bolt threads. I put a socket on them and smacked 'em pretty good with the hammer. I was able to work all of them loose except one. The one behind the passenger wheel spun the nut so I'll have to cut up a patch in the trunk. The one on the drivers side, felt like it was going to spin but I was able to work at it and get the bolt out. I put it on the wire wheel and cleaned it up and dipped the bolt in a can of wheel bearing grease before I put it back in. Now that I know that I can get all the bolts out with ease, (except the one).

Next weekend I will change out all the bushings and hardware.

Still pondering why the extra empty two spot?? I hope someone can shed some light.

tas,
Not to worry, there's nothing missing. SS and convertibles would have a bushing in the extra hole. Hope this helps.

Mike,

Should I put a bushing in? Wouldn't it make a difference?

Well my replacement bushing kit only came with 10 pieces, so I guess that I'll have to leave these two spot empty.

Thanks to Aaron for the reply!

Tas, I going to get a extra two bushings for these two holes. There is just to much space between the bushing below the front door and the one in front of the coil spring. I have broken all mine loose, but the one behind the driver side wheel is spinning. Hope your replacement process goes good. I'm using the energy suspension brand on mine. I'm looking for more of a handling car. Something to have fun on road courses with. Its amazing the shape of these rubber bushings. ;)

Aaron,

If I can find a place to sell me two bushings, I will put them in.

Wish me luck!

Yeah, I know what you mean. As I stated my are from energy suspension. They left out two of the larger bushings. The bushing under the door has a larger sleeve. The bushings I was given has way to small of a hole. Anyone know where I can find these larger bushings?

Aaron,

I contacted the vendor about getting two more bushings and hardware. They told me that there is a retro fit kit. $16.00, but on back order. I placed the order, going to install the others this weekend, and the remaining two, when they arrive.

Well yesterday I installed my new frame bushings and radiator suports bushings.

It went fairly easy.

I did elect to reuse the best two, and install them in the two empty spots.
