So I have a 70 Malibu and am in the process of rebuilding it. I had a 350 built, putting out close to 400 hp, but I havent been able to get it running right. The fuse box is so corroded that it jumps from 12 to 6 to 0 volts while running. I want to put in an entire new engine and gauge wiring harness, but dont know the best way to go about it and if this is going to be a difficult task for me to take on. Right now I have the sweeper gauges, but eventually I am going to be moving on to SS gauges in the future when cash is more readily available. Are the harnesses going to work for both sweeper and ss gauges? Any advice that you could give me would be helpful. From the sounds of previous posts, M&H is the place to get the harness. Thanks

If you are going to put in SS gauges, you need the dash and FWD light harnesses. Sweeper and SS gauge harnesses are not readably interchangeable, unless you do a lot of cutting and splicing. Sweeper harnesses also don't have the PCB connector that SS idiot light and gauge harnesses have.

maybe you should get a better gauge? if you have a 12 volt battery no way could the voltage be dropping to 6 or zero without a lot of smoke coming out of something. Where are you hooking up your gauge?

Don't know of anything in the fuse box or near it that could affect the charge voltage.

I think we were checking from the coil to the ignition in the fuse panel. It would cut in and out and the engine was miss firing and running really poorly. Any suggestions?
