Hello everyone. My car is a '70 Concours wagon, factory power discs. I want to go with 12" up front from a '98-'03 F Body(I see brackets and info on ebay for this). For the unknown twist, I want to use '93-'97 F body rear discs, according to my local chevy dealer this should work. Has anyone heard of this type of swap? I have read a couple comments this should a direct bolt on.I do realize I will need a 4 wheel MC and prop valve. Any suggestions or comments. Thanks, Erik

I have been looking at your website for about a year and a 1/2. I like your wagon project. I was trying to do the front brakes with out going to the tall spindles. That looks like it will get rather expensive. Although I understand it has great benefits beyond bigger brakes. Thanks for the reply. Erik

Erik,

You will need to check the clearance on you wheels. Not all wheels will fit the bigger discs (both front and rear). Stock GM rallys (15-inch) seem to require minot clearancing (grinding or cooling fins) to clear the rear F-body (93-97)calipers. Some aftermarket rallys won't fit (I know my Wheel Vintiques wouldn't at all).

The rear disc set either require minor knotching of the shock bracket to clear the E-brake cable, or FO-FDYFO's rear E-brake kit.

For the knotching, check RJ's site here:

http://www.buffnet.net/~airrj/Rear%20Brakes.html

I have also heard the 98-02 F-body rear brakes should swap, and have a different style E-brake (mini-drum brake), but not sure of other clearance issues...

Erik Erik,
Yes, it will swap. I'll have to grab some pics of the swap to show you what's involved. Pretty simple. Only hard part is some axles need to have their flange O.D. turned down to accept the rotor. Any machine shop can do it.

I'm in the process right now of swapping on the LS1/C5 rear brakes graemlins/thumbsup.gif

Thanks for the replies. I have 16" front wheels and 17" rear wheels. They are Torque Thrust IIs. I think I will have the room to play with. But I have heard the rotors may hit the center of the wheel, with some wheels, suppose I will find out soon enough. Thanks for letting me know the rear brakes should swap over easy. I am anxious to hear if the C5 brake swap goes well. Thanks again, Erik
