Orderd new 66 SS396 springring cables from NPD. The positive cable is short, I can't use the hold down clip that's on the frame, just below the battery. Anyone else have this problem. The cables came in Lectric limited bags from NPD. Here is the GM number on the repro springring positive cable [6289132 XT]

Couple things here.. I believe that you have the incorrect Part # cable to start with. If my memory is correct, you have an Earlier built car and as such the part # on your Positive battery cable should be: #6286173VS

This of course will not affect your length issue, but you might as well have the correct cable when you get the correct length issue worked out.

What you need to do is CALL Lectic Limited directly.. ask to speak with the dept who makes the cables.. explain that you need a Positive Cable XYZ in length.. measure what it is you need and tell them. I have done this for several cars and they have always been more than happy to MAKE me what I need. same goes for the part # issue.. Mine is VS code and they got it to me.

Do I have the wrong cable? I got mine from Classic Muscle, they list 6289132 for 66 327 or 396 (exc AC). No problem with length. This is also the # listed in my AIM.

Classic also list 6286173 for 66 396 with A/C. Car is 4th week of Dec 65. However my AIM list 6289132 as the pos battery cable for a car with C60. Could my AIM be a later part #'s than a Dec car? Thanks.

I see that I have found an answer to my question. According to page UPC 12 A9.5 it list cable 6289132 was cable 6286173 in the revisions sections.

Got your Thank You via the PM section Todd.. glad it was helpful information. :)

James.. Not sure what you have there.. I only know what I have reported and what I have documented from survivor cars and Build Sheets I have showing this code.. Early March of 1966 I think is when they used the Other number that Todd has.

I always order direct from the source as opposed to using vendors like GU or others.

Thanks Mike. The AIM on page UPC 12 A 9.5 shows that March 9 of 1966 is when they changed from 6286173 to 6289132.

Also seems to indicated that at some time before April 6, 1966, they added the clip, lock washer, and screw.
So, would a Dec 65 car have a clip, washer, and screw? Thanks.
