IF I remeber... 95 and older is OBD1 and 96 abd newer is OBD2. Cats can be eliminted but they use O2 simulators to fool the ECU into thinking everyting is OK...

depending on the date of the computer it is most likely an obd2. the LT1 was funny with that as 93-94 was OBD1, and half way through 95 i think went to OBD2.
you can buy teh ALDL cable off the Fbody forums, and then download Tunercatz for a free 30day trial. its 60 or 90 bucks for the full version if you like it, and then a few bucks for the .bin file.
you dont need to tune the cats out thats fine, but if its OBD2 you may need to because of the rear most heated o2 sensor.
you can use the factory harness, and then just eliminate the other stupid stuff.
the air pump you can disconnect and not need a tune (what i did in my lt1, no DTC's, and runs good). the EGR you will need to turn off, you can just set the variable to stay closed at something like 10k rpm or 200rpm.
there is more, but i cant think of anything now.
check out www.ltxforum.com and camaroz28.com for a lot of helpful LT1 info.
they are good motors. all of them are 2 bolt mains, with the exception of the LT4 which is 4 bolt. if your planning on making any kind of decent power, please splay the main caps, or get an lt4 block (expensive). my friend blew 2 lt1's up making 350+whp, both had stock 2 bolt mains.
head work is cheap and easy. send in your heads as a core, or buy ones done from Lloyd Elliot, or Advanced Induction, have them port the stock castings (aftermarket are a waste unless your planning on BIG BIG power.
375-400rwhp is possible with ported heads and intake, 230 @ 50 duration cam, headers, good tune, and be drivable. stock compression is already 10.4:1.
good luck. keep us posted.
