Keys to my Hillbilly rig were lost over the summer. Finally got around to changing out the locks since there was no spare for this truck. Anyone had success getting a gas cap off with out damage to the filler neck?

Call a lock smith or drill it out, your choice:D or you could get a external tank in the bed of the truck ,LOL

drill, chisel, big @ss chanel locks and a dent puller might do alright w/o damaging the filler..its about patience. Had a few at the shop when someone lost the key.
I have bought a few cars that sat for many years and keys where MIA...sometimes you just gotta hear those parts cars run :D
Locking gas caps are nice act of revenge..cheap investment ;) :D

nice looking truck too Jeff

Call a locksmith. I had a locksmith pick the glovebox lock on a car I bought and they did it for free. Just had to show up at the lock shop.

Drive over to the Locksmiths, have a couple extra keys made and he'll probably pick the gas cap lock for 'ya for almost nothing.

could also go junkyarding and get a couple of filler necks.
be the same from 79+
dunno why one would put locking caps on these trucks anyway.
every time someone ran off with my fuel----they removed the rubber hose from the filler and siphoned it out.
Kinda hard to siphon the fuel from these --- with that 90* bend in the filler hose

I bet you could hammer a big snap on screw driver in the key slot and take a 12" crescent to the hex on screw driver and it would open like a key. I've never tried though but those plastic things are cheap and can't be made that good. Go to the lock smith first and only try the above method if the lock smith gets big dollar signs in his eyes.

20 min and $23 and both my tool box and gas cap were functional with 4 new keys. The truck itself I did with spares out of a couple other rigs I have.

Thanks for the inputs everyone

$23 sounds pretty cheap to me.

wouldn't it be the quickest to just torch it off? Just Kidding. I would agree with punching it with a screwdriver.

i used a dent puller to get the tumbler out, then a screw driver to move springs and sha bam popped right out.
