: Trunk locked...can't open... now what

I was installling new trunk gasket material on my 68 and did a "test" close. I had earlier put a new key assembly in and it was working fine. Now the key rotates the complete to open but the trunk is not releasing.

Now what.......?

What are my options...... Cutting part of the back of the seat to get a kid through seems like a likely option....

Thoughts?

Take the back seat out and crawl through... I can fit through my bracing - but it's tight.

Try to push the the trunk down as you plaay/rotate the key.

If not pull the back seat, not all that hard to do, just a pain you have to do it.

Remove the back seat back, put all of your extensions together and borrow some if you need to, push them through the opening in the back seat braces to remove the 3 bolts that hold the latch to the trunk rear panel. It worked for me on my 70.

The trunk lid may just be sticking to the new gasket, mine did that when it was first installed. If that is it just pull up hard with the key turned all the way. Then coat the gasket with baby oil or something similar to keep it from sticking.

take the back seat out. get a flashlight and long standard screwdriver and put it in the slot on the release mechanism and turn.

Is there any resistance when you turn the key? It's possible the the link between the lock and the latch fell off. Through the back seat would be my first option. The last would be to drill out the lock.

I thought it was sticking as well.... Tried the lock for about an hour before I was ready to get the BFH and a torch.

Going to try the extensions when I get home this evening and will let everyone know.

I twisted that lock and pulled on the corners for over an hour after it first happened. Extensions and a trunk monkey did the trick. Sellingwas on the list after BFH and a gallon of gas / matches.

I reattached the lock mechanism without the cylinder and it will open and close with a screw driver.... just as before. (I just need to find a Stanley screw driver in Butternut Yellow)

It appears that the locking cylinder has two much play when threading the "keyed" extension into the latch...... Or another possiblity is that when I was backing out the bolts for the latch assembly they seemed loose.... the car is just back from Paint Jail............ Would that had anything to do with it????

Does anyone have a picture of how the spring should look that holds the cylinder lock extension release in.....?

Thanks for everyone's help.
