Im new to the site so i hope this ? is in the correct spot. i have a 68 malibu. its a fremont califorina car. i bought the car just for a drag car but after replacing full quater and trunk pan ive decided to build a street car. The vin number on the dash has rusted away to the point that i cant read it. and in order to get a tittle i need the vin number. ive looked all along the top frame rail on the driver side. theres nothing there. ive looked behind the a/c blower on the fire wall and theres nothing there. where else could i possible look? any help at all would be great. i did find one number in the a/c housing itselve it read 3014156-a1 could this be a partial vin? or just a part #?

That is going to be tough considering the only place you can get the full VIN is the windshield cowl area. I know the rear part of the frame, top drivers side I believe:confused:..(been so long since my frame off) there is the last 6 of the VIN if the car is NOM. I also think the last 6 of VIN is on the engine block.

When I did my frame off, I wasnt looking for numbers..lol, this was back in 94. But look up the search link on the forum or go into the Tag Team forum, they might be able to help ya more there.

Did you pull the blower motor out of the car? The VIN is stamped in the metal inside the blower case.

I just refinished the whole underside and firewall on my 68. Stripped to bare metal then so on and so on. i found the vin in two places on the firewall. First place was under the blower motor mounting flange. Second was under the heater core cover mounting flange. These number were not very easy to see with the original paint on. it wasn't untill I sand blasted the whole firewall that I realized what they are.

Remove your heater core cover and blower cover and clean the fire wall were they mount up. There should be a number in one of the those two spots. Good luck!!!!!!!!!

I think this really depends where and when the car was assembled. My 68 has the vin stamped behind the heater box, under the hood. The 68 was assembled in Atlanta.

My Fremont built 69 has no vin on the firewall at all. It was bead blasted completely clean, and it's not there. The vin is in two locations on the left frame rail. One on top of the frame under the door, and the second is on top of the frame behind the rear wheel, near the middle between the wheel and bumper. You said it's not on you frame, but how clean is it. My frame is under a California car and literally rust/pit free, and the body was off the car. I couldn't see any sign's of the vin stamp until I got it back from blasting. Then is was very visible. My point: How clean is the top of your frame? Is the body off the frame? Chances are, it's there, but you can see it until it's clean, and blasted.

Here's a shot of the vin on the top of the frame. There's also a part number on the vertical part of the frame.
