72 malibu rear tires 275/60 r 15. back sits high, i took it to my mech. and he said he would lower it for me but when he did said the quarters were hitting the tires. why do other chevelles not have this problem with similar tires, and what can i do to fix this other than getting thinner tires? id like the car to sit stock or maybe 1" lower so i can finally tear them rear tires up, a little.

You probably have the wrong backspacing. Not sure what the correct backspacing is, though. I've got that size now with no troubles.

if your not concerned you can always beat the inside of the fenders. the fender liners bulge out about 3/4". if you take the wheels off you can prolly see where they are rubbing. i used a propane torch and a big as hammer and made clearance problems go away. be very carefully with the propane if your car has finished paint on it. hope that helps. tommy

thanks, yeah they are rubbing the outside. i dont know what the backspacing is so this is no help. i guess my best bet will be different tires, being that i know ill mess something up if i try to "adjust" the wheel wells.

yes it is actually the lip. you offer a good option, thanks tommy. i may look into that instead.
