: WTH Paypal!?
rianbechtold Oct 13th, 09, 2:31 PM I just received a payment through paypal and just about flipped when I found they took almost $30 in fees! WTH!? Ugh, you try to be nice and quote EXACT prices and then companies like paypal slap fees on everything!
Just for future reference, do you guys that sell alot have the buyer cover these fees? Or does the price of the product just reflect the value plus possible fees?
sschevellefan Oct 13th, 09, 2:44 PM I recently sold a few things on ebay and it`s a little different now than it was last time I sold stuff. Before you could charge a handling fee to cover the fees but you can`t anymore. Also you can now only use paypal where I use to take money orders too. Paypal use to be set up where a cetain type of account didn`t get charged fees but you couldn`t accept credit card payments. Now they take a portion out anyways. So you got your listing fees and final value fees with ebay and then the paypal fees. It`s almost not worth selling anything on there anymore and I probably won`t either.
markfromark Oct 13th, 09, 3:08 PM I use Paypal quite a bit to receive payments and I usually add at least 3% to my price to cover their fees.

I use to cover the 3% with a handling fee but you can`t do that anymore. Whats the trick with the way it`s set up now?

Sorry for the confusion I added by my statement... the fees I receive are for set prices for items I sell off my website and I communicate that 3% fee up front with the option to use Paypal.
I rarely sell anything on the auction sites.
webfoot Oct 13th, 09, 3:25 PM I think E-checks done through PP incur no fees, but I haven't seen one of these in a while.

Don_Lightfoot Oct 13th, 09, 4:53 PM Thanks for that info guys. I'll be instructing future purchasers to use them.
EDIT - Just checked, appears it does not apply to Canadian Paypal members - DUH!
BillsCamino Oct 13th, 09, 5:46 PM Also no 3% fees charged on REFUNDS.

I transferred the balance of funds collected for Ken's 4 wheeler fundraiser for free. Sent as a gift.
Hot66ss Oct 14th, 09, 3:13 AM Wow sending the money as a gift is a great loop hole. Can the sender use any payment method when doing this (IE credit card)
Thanks
2cool Oct 14th, 09, 3:36 AM Welcome to the world of business, everyone pays these fees, how do think a waiter feels when you put your tip on a credit card?
mjdwyer23 Oct 14th, 09, 8:29 AM Send as a gift through your CC and you will be protected through your CC company's customer protection as well.
