: Transgo TH400 PRO shift kit
HPseeker Oct 12th, 09, 7:12 PM I will try to rebuilt a th400 using a TRANSGO TH400 pro shift kit .after the installation the transmision will shifts to second with the stick in first ?
I will keep the manual control of upshifts and downshifts into 1st and 2nd but retaining auto features in drive range with this kit ?
jakeshoe Oct 12th, 09, 8:19 PM Did you install the new 1-2 shift valve and the plug on the valve body?
HPseeker Oct 12th, 09, 8:57 PM THANKS Jake for the responde , I just start the cleaning of this stock th400 today.
The TG th400 Pro kit was bought a few months ago .I will start this rebuilt this week .I really want this tranny to keep the manual control of upshifts and downshifts into 1st and 2nd but retaining auto features in drive range.
HPseeker Oct 13th, 09, 9:26 PM Should I buy Jake's vb ? , i JUST SAW his site and he got it custom made by him with the way I want it to work ."keep the manual control of upshifts and downshifts into 1st and 2nd but retaining auto features in drive range" .
jakeshoe Oct 13th, 09, 11:42 PM The TransGo kit will do what you want.
If you are over 500 HP I would do all the mods to the VB included in the TransGo kit but if this is a rebuild, use the stock seperator plate, drill the feed holes to the TransGo specs ( I use .125" for the 2nd feed, .140" for the third feed on most of my TH400 builds up to 1000 HP.
You will need to do internal mods over 500 HP.
Not to cut myself out of a sale, but you already have the proper parts, no need to sell you something you don't need.
HPseeker Oct 14th, 09, 10:14 PM Thanks Jake for the help , I just got your Home page added just in case I need something in the future .
Jake he mods you are taking are dual feeding the th400 ?
I did a search and found this old post ,GOOD inf but I dont know if if apply to be used with my TG th400-PRO kit , http://www.chevelles.com/forums/showthread.php?t=185541&highlight=TH400-PRO
iF I need to do this mod ,please can you tell if The hole that I need plug is the reverse feed hole on the center support ,and you preffer to plug the case
jakeshoe Oct 15th, 09, 12:12 AM It applies.
I prefer to internally dual feed the trans.
The TransGo plate is the ONLY way to dual feed IF the trans is in the car and will not be disassembled.
However if you are doing a rebuild, you can do all the mods in the TransGo kit without buying the kit.
HPseeker Oct 15th, 09, 8:24 AM Jake thanks for taking your time for helping us , I am doing a rebuild and got the TG TH400-PRO kit already bought it for a low price went a race shop close few months ago .
went the "the internal way to dual feed the tranny " is done , The transgo plate got to be used ?
or you prefer to do the " internal " dual feed option drilling the old plate?
removing the second ring and internal lip and and tap the right side case hole ,this is the correct way ?
HPseeker Oct 16th, 09, 3:21 AM Jake the TG plate can be used went the internal dual feed in done ?

Im no expert but from talking to jake and doing the transgo kit in mine I was told that the transgo plate is for the dual feeding, if you do the internal mod you dont need the transgo plate.
also if the internal mod was done and you had no idea if it was you can also use the transgo plate.
jakeshoe Oct 16th, 09, 10:27 PM You don't need to use the TransGo plate if you do the internal dual feed mod.
Remove the center sealing ring from the direct drum. It is the medium size on that is actually on the drum and not the apply piston.
Remove the 2nd sealing ring from the "front" on the center support.
Install the rear section of the transmission, install the seal plug on the 3rd gear feed side (left side of the center support bolt as looking at the case with the tailhousing end facing down, bell facing up). Install a cup plug in the passage to the right of the center support bolt to block this circuit (reverse).
I recommend on hot rods (but not 4x4s) to block the 2-3 accumulator in the valve body when you do this modification.
Drill the feed holes in the stock plate to .125 (1/8) " and the 3rd feed to .140" for performance applications.
Install 5 checkballs as shown on my build pages.
This will make it shift very positively and not break parts.
Save the transgo plate for the trans that comes in and you want to upgrade without rebuilding.
