GM has discontinued this part. Where can you get a front seal kit if you needed one for your original stock compressor?

Found a awsome place for all your A/C needs. Spoke with a guy named Curtis, he is one smart cookie. :D

Ditch the original type, oil slinging ceramic seal and use a double lip seal for a newer (HR6?) compressor. No mods are necessary, it's a direct fit. Here's how:http://www.autoacforum.com/messageview.cfm?catid=20&threadid=18683

Just install the oring, seal and felt from the kit. The part number for the kit is in the article and available from the dealer and other various sources.

Many new and reman A6 compressors are now using this seal because of warranty issues with the old type. When these cars were new, some oil slinging was considered "normal". Higher end cars even had a shield mounted over the pulley to contain the seepage. As they aged, nobody cared about the nasty oil stripe on the hood. Today, folks do not want that ugly oil stripe on their "classic" that they spent $$$ restoring.

Will it fit a 72 ? If so I would like the part number as mine has just started slinging oil everywhere. I just got in from cleaning all that crud off. Will take off belt next to prevent more slinging til repared.

It will work on all A6 compressors (yours is an A6):
GM# 2724954, AcDelco #15-30948 and Ackits.com seal number 21-34734

Check out the article for how to change the seal, there are lots of pics. There are 6 parts in the kit, you will only use 3.
You'll need some special tools: Pulley remover and replacer set, seal remover/installer, and seal protector. You can rent the pulley tools, but you'll have to buy/borrow the seal tools.

Oh, the system must be empty before servicing the seal. I thought I should mention that.

I had one of my Chevelles compressors restored, the other was replaced with a reman. The restored one slings oil, the reman does not, if what you say about the seal is correct I will insist on the new model seal for my newest project.
