I do. I figure if it is good enough to use by the Marine Corps in the Hummer's PS, it is good enough for me.

I did, but the info with the new AGR steering box I just bought, said it will void their warrantee... never had or heard of a problem with it though...

Funny, they didn't say I had to flush the system, so I am pretty sure there will be some ATF in there...

All of the Saginaw power steering pumps adapt fairly well to all kinds of fluids. The pumps are sold all over the world and are used with many manufacturers fluids.

However, having said that, you should consider the following. The amber colored power steering fluid that is used as the GM factory fill at the assembly plants and also sold at GM dealerships is the only one that has been specifically formulated to operate with the Saginaw power steering pumps. It has friction modifiers as well as antifoam ingredients to work with the rotating pumping parts inside the pump. Also there have been tens of thousands of successful laboratory tests and millions of miles of durability testing with the GM fluid.

I am never sure what fluid is inside the cans labeled "power steering fluid" that you find at Walmart, K-mart, Pep Boys, etc.

Back in the 50s and early 60s automatic transmission fluid was used in the power steering system. However, as temperature and engine horsepower increased, the automatic transmission people began changing their fluid to operate better in their changing environment. They did this without regard to the fact that the power steering system was using their fluid as well.

So in the late 60s Saginaw along with GM decided to develop a specific fluid formulation just for power steering.

That is why some of the early power steering reservoir caps had ATF specified as the proper fluid to use. All the later caps and owner's manuals have always said to use "Approved Fluid".
