I posted this in the performance section and haven't gotten a response, so I will ask here. Last night I was going to install a set of new QA1 shocks in the fron of my 66 chevelle. I found out that they will not just slip in to the bottom of my lower control arm. The dia. is to big around to go into the hole provided, also there is the adjusting knob on the shock body. I am thinking, drop the controll arm, take out the front spring, put the shock inside the spring and try to reinstall the shock and spring at the same time. Am I on the right track or is there an easier way to install them. I'm sure on this site someone has installed QA1s in the front of there 66 chevelle. Need a little help here.

That's one way of getting 'em in there.
I've read reviews in mags that say they just enlarge the LCA hole to get the QA1's in.
After bolting in a tubular engine craddle on a '00 GT Mustang I'm beginning to question QA1's quality of parts.

I have seen a stock lower arm made to fit the Q1A shock. Not much metal after the hole is enlarged to bolt the shock to.
I think if you remove the arm/spring, and enlarge the hole you should reinforce the mounting area with more 1/8" flat steel.
Maybe make a plate that allows the sock to be mounted, but provides more strenth in the bolt area.

I just read an article in one of my car mags and they are doing a conversion just like you. They enlarged the hole of the lower control arm to accomodate the new shock. If you want i can send you the picture from the magazine.
