Im haveing trouble finding new calipers. The ones on the 68ss I just bought are too bad to reseal. Will any other caliper cross and bolt up to these backing plates. If so what did they come off of. I have a good pair of corvette calipers but the bolt holes are too wide to fit the backing plate. Will it be safe to enlongate the bottom hole so the calliper will fit on mount. I have the hoses to do this but really want to know if anyone has done this conversion. Were there any problems when this was done. Thanks Sam.

Welcome to the best car site on the web Sam!
There is a lot more Chevelle experience on this board than I could ever hope to offer you.

For everybody else here, Sam is my brother and owner of both a red 1966 and a white 68 SS elke.

Sam: Don't condemn those caliper to quickly, a call to Stainless Steel Brake, and they can install Stainless liners in those calipers. If any other caliper fit it would be from 67 & 68 A-bodies, F-bodies (Firebird, Camaro), X-bodies (Nova and it brother cars) but only the 4 piston stuff. Hope I've been of assistance.

Any calipers you find should be rebuilt with stainless steel sleeves. The cast iron sleeves from the factory get pitted over the years. They hone the cylinders out and put SS sleeves in. This is the only way your gonna be sure, they will no longer leak...
