Are we going to learn about the new Holley EFI on the first day of SEMA? If so, start writing your post now.

You can post your EFI 101, that Vince (69-CHVL) wanted, here also.

Thanks for the forum!

Mark

EFI101? I'd better start typing... Don't have anything to cut and paste! I'll start some topics about common questions and all that.
As are the rules most websites, I'm not here to be a "Holley Salesman". I come here for fun. I'll answer questions if appropriate, but I'm not here to pedal stuff.

Thanks for stopping by Doug.

Have you looked at the megasquirt stuff at all? Their code is open source, but I don't know how much of it is specific to the hardware they're using. I'm thinking it might be a good alternative for us cash-poor DIY types.

Hi Tom,
I'm definately not a MS knowledgable person. I've only been to their site a few times. If there were 34 hours in the day, I'd be there more.

I will say that just running a typical V8 engine doesn't take much to do. I've almost always heard good things about the MS. Certainly has a big support group which is important.

The biggest feature that is a "must have" is WB02.

What makes about any EFI system "good or bad" is how well it was tuned. Some are easier to tune than others.

I think someone said something correct about MS (I can relate to it anyhow) - If you have kids, etc, etc, it might be worth it not to have to build you own. But if you have kids you probably have no money anyhow!

The other thing I've seen for sure is the EFI users span the gamut. Mention "open source code" and some will start at you for days. Others go "oh yea, let me play". Companies like Holley can't do something like that for liablity reasons. I get asked all the time to release the C950 code. Too many lawyers to do that these days.

I am one of those stare at you guys.... I have EFI (Holley Stealth Ram), but used a bunch of factory sensors and repurposed a Chev Corsica ECM and Vette chip. I am proud to say I know they guy who did all the work including changing up a later model chev truck harness to work. I just don't understand the technical stuff involved, but thanks to guys like Doug who are on here, I know enough to be dangerous, but slowly learning more (enough to know how little I understand it).

Thanks to Doug for the help, and to everyone else who I will be learning from as this new section grows.

Bryan,

Looks like you're miles ahead of most everybody else. You lost me at plugging a V-8 harness into a six cylinder computer. It had enough injector drivers for a V-8?

Anybody know if one of those Stealth Ram manifolds will fit under the hood of a Chevelle?

Think they should on any year Chevelle.

Woo Hoo! A forum dedicated to EFI. :D :D :D

FWIW I have spent more time than I should diving into the internals of the MS stuff. I write firmware for a living so I started a collection of hardware documentation on the MS. Some from B&G, some from the Extra folks, and a bunch of original chip component vendors. Now I just need to buy one, put it together, and install the thing...

The hardware drives the code, so figure the code is unique to each product/platform. However most of the later, and especially MS-II, stuff is written in C so it is a bit easier to read and a bit more portable as well. That said, it was NOT written to be easily read and supported. IMHO it is very much not a commercial grade source code.

BTW since many EFI systems up to fairly recently used "batch fire" (turning on several or even all injectors at once) you can do pretty decent fuel control with a V6 computer on a V8 if you wire up the extra injectors.

Check my sig-mine fits under a stock 72 hood and actually has a little more room than the old Holley and 2" air cleaner w/o drop base.
