I took off a pair of Monroe Air Shocks off of my 70 Rust Bucket SS. Did they ever come from the factory? I kind of remember back in the day, alot of cars had them to rake the car forward but I thought that they were added after the factory. I read somewhere about a compressor option that would pump up for load leveling / increase weight capacity of the trunk and not the Monroe Load Leveler shock series. Also, are bushings available for these air shocks? If they are, I can rebuild them and repaint them to new and get the proper height for my car. Any comments or opinions
Thanks, Roland in NY?

Delco air shocks were standard on El Caminos. If they are Monroe, they've been replaced. There's really no good reason to try and rebuild them. You can buy new Monroe's for $60.00
I've never heard of a compressor option. The originals have air lines that go back to the rear bumper, for easy access to the air valve.
Bill's info is good. Delco shocks were factory for both standard and air shocks. Chevelles were offered with the RPO G66 Superlift Air Shocks that were manually filled by a fitting behind the licence bracket. Now the Monte Carlo SS454 came with automatic load levelling air shocks (RPO G67) as standard, complete with engine-driven compressor & inner fender mounted reservoir. GM offered the automatic levelling shock package as an over the counter item, plus Delco offered it aftermarket as the "Jak Pac". Monroe was never stock on any car.
