Just pulled a Steering box from a 94 Jeep Grand Cherokee for my 68 Chevelle for $25.00 at the local Pick-a-part. After cleaning it up a little, it has the code PD on the end cap. This code is not listed in the corvettefaq-A Body steering web page as a quick ratio 12.7-1 box, but I have searched other posts, and some say all these year model boxes were the quick ratio. Does anybody know for sure?

well im not sure if its the same one, but i have a 96 grand cherokee, which has been my daily driver, and it seems like it is a much quicker steering box than what is in the velle. i cant wait to pull a box from a yard, and throw it in my velle.

good luck, sorry couldnt help.

All 1994 Jeep Grand Cherokee steering gears were 12.7:1 fast ratio gears. In fact all Grand Cherokees from mid-year 1992 through 1998 had fast ratio gears.

Sometimes new alpha codes were requested by the customer as a mid-year change. All alpha code changes weren't necessarily in the documents that I reviewed to get my data. I will add PD to my list.

Once again Jim, you are the man when it comes to steering stuff. I'm not sure of the year on that box. It is either a 94 or a 95, built in late 94. I'll check the vehicle the next time I'm at the yard, which will be next week for my tall spindle conversion parts.

Caru68, I think you'll be very happy with this swap ... I completed it 2 1/2 years ago on my Elky using parts from a 9C1 Caprice ... WOW what a difference. I would have used the Jeep Grand Cherokee box, but I stumbled upon this old cruiser in the boneyard and couldn't pass up the box, rag joint (from 1981 GMC 2wd), extra pump and lines all for $25.

This conversion really makes the vehicle more fun to drive.

Nice score, elcamino 72. I just took the box with the lines attached, grabbed the rag joint off an 84 GMC C1500, and put it on the input shaft. They sold me both for $25.00, plus I paid $5.00 for a 30 day warrantee, just in case something is wrong with it. I think I may have a pump laying around with the metric fitting/valve setup that I am going to try to put in my original pump. I have heard that it is a direct swap.
