: Front Part Of Frame & Firewall Painted - Picture

I'm finished painting the firewall and the front part of my frame on my '68.

After a considerable amount of research on paint for the frame, I opted for Chassis Coat Black (http://www.por15.com/CHASSIS-COAT-BLACK/productinfo/CHG/) from POR-15.

I'm doing a frame on restoration, but I will be lifting the body a few inches above the frame when I change my body mount bushings, and while I have it lifted up, I'll paint the rest of the frame and undercarriage...actually, I should say a 17 year old high school kid will be painting underneath it.

I painted the front of the frame and the firewall myself, but a local 17 year old said he'd clean the underside and paint it with Chassis Coat Black for a hundred bucks.
That's well worth a hundred bucks to me.

I had hoped to have the body mount bushings changed by now, but I've had a couple of irons in the fire.
I drilled small holes above where the cage nuts are located so I could soak them with PB Blaster.
I'll post pictures after I complete that job.

-Greg

Looks good man. I would reconsider that "cheap" labor. Remember, you get what you pay for.

Looks good man.

Thanks.

I've seen that kid's work, he's extremely meticulous.
I'm confident the underside will be very well cleaned and very well painted.
I consider it a bargain for him to offer to clean and paint the underside of my car for a hundred bucks.

Be aware that the metal next to the body mount may be rusted out a little, so get a good look at it, maybe with a mirror.

You may have said it before, and I forgot, but why aren't you taking the body all the way off.

Your frame looks really good.

It's a New Mexico car and the metal looks pretty pristine underneath, but I'll do as you suggest and take a close look at the body mount areas anyway.
I already have the front body mount bolts removed (on each side of the firewall) and the metal looks great.

You may have said it before, and I forgot, but why aren't you taking the body all the way off.

As I said, it's a New Mexico car and there aren't any rust issues that I need access to for repair.
Plus, with the body jacked up a few inches, I figure everthing underneath will be accessable to clean and paint, thus, no need to completely remove the body to another area of the garage.

Your frame looks really good.

Thanks, I appreciate it.
My goal is to have all the metal, inside and underneath, cleaned and painted before I start rebuilding it with new parts.

If he delivers, I'd give him 2x that just for being a good kid and taking pride in what he does.

EDIT: BTW, the front end looks awesome

I agree, that's a good idea. That'll be a laborious job and easily worth an extra hundred bucks if done properly.

I'm about there, too. The engine comes out as soon as I can get the hoist from my FIL. Great idea on drilling a tiny hole to shoot some PB Blaster in there. I was just about to peek around to see how to soak those bolts. I think that's going to be the trick.

Thanks man.

When the rest of the frame is all cleaned and painted, I'll mop the garage floor under and around the car with Simple Green, then the really enjoyable part will begin. I'll have a nice clean area to work in while I install new suspension and steering parts on a clean, freshly painted frame.
