: 1970 454 ss
cdibi Oct 4th, 09, 11:13 PM I'm still in search of a '70 SS clone. I recently found this one:
http://www.islanderpools.com/chevelle2/chevelle2.htm
Says it's a real SS, I'm assuming the motor is not original. There is no SS emblems on the interior door panels. Car looks good from pictures. What do you think it's worth?
704EVER Oct 5th, 09, 7:04 AM I would think anywhere in the 15-18K range would be about right for this car depending on how good the body really is. It looks like someone couldn't figure out how to use the stripe kit, which is a shame. It amazes me how many painters, can't get these stripes even remotely correct. What are they asking for it?
cdibi Oct 5th, 09, 9:17 AM He was asking $26,000, but willing to move.

Agree with the stripes. A shame when it's so easy to get the correct stencil kit. Z15-optioned Chevelles didn't have the SS door emblems but rather the Malibu emblem and this one seems to be missing them as well. For some reason the B22 emblem code wasn't included in the Z15 option group, hence they got the standard Malibu emblem.
Looks like someone went a little overboard with the silver paint on the gauge pods. I guess they couldn't find a smaller brush and didn't do their homework. And, if the car already has gauges, why the dime-store addons under the dash? Never ceases to amaze me that people will trust their car to a set of $30 gauges. Another 4.11 rear end as well. Fair driver quality car but not for $26K. :noway: Agree $15K to $18K range.
704EVER Oct 5th, 09, 6:13 PM The sad part is Dale, it looks like they used the stencil kit but just reversed the corners!!!!:clonk:
TonyZ Oct 5th, 09, 6:22 PM backs right fronts reversed - hmmm
cdibi Oct 5th, 09, 7:13 PM I am definately looking for a driver quality car and willing to spend up to $25k. I definately don't want to over pay and these cars are fairly new to me that's why I have posted. I haven't seen cars in both good mechanical and physical condition for under 20k. Am I wrong? I've been searching ebay, craigs list, and auto trader. I want an SS (clone or real) with a big block and auto transmission (center console).
Beyond the stripes being backwards, what makes a car like this worth more or less?

Beyond the stripes being backwards, what makes a car like this worth more or less?I'd say, for this car anyway, it's a combination attention to detail, not appearing to be very Chevelle-savvy and even the apparent lack of standard stuff like seat belts. Doesn't look like the heater is hooked up and that may not be an issue if you live in a warm climate but without a heater you also don't have a defroster. If it's just disconnected, no big deal but if the core is bad/missing/blower motor squeals, etc. there's an additional expense. Missing dome light and lens. If small things like that are not attended to, in my mind anyway, what else is missing or not working?
Hard to tell if the carb is a Holley 4779 750cfm double pumper as stated or simply a dual inlet Holley.
Car is on eBay as well with no bids yet even at a start of $20K. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/1970-CHEVROLET-CHEVELLE_W0QQitemZ320431740852QQcmdZViewItemQQptZU S_Cars_Trucks?hash=item4a9b3857b4&_trksid=p4506.c0.m245
Personally I feel you could get a better 70 SS (real or clone) for $26K.
mrfuzzy Oct 5th, 09, 10:56 PM i think you could get something a lot better for your money than that. the moron that laid out the stripes must have been drinking when he did that.
