Reason being is this. When I did my car, I replaced the oilpan with a milodon pan. The dipstick mounting area is just a hair off from the factory location. What happens is when the stock dipstick tube is mounted in there, it hugs one side , leaving a gap on the other side where oil can ( & did ) escape. Picture sticking your finger into a hole and having one side of it pressing firmly down and a gap on the other side allowing air or liquid to escape. ( Get your minds out of the gutter!:))
I figured this will affect my close to stock look, but will keep things neat and dry. I used RTV to seal the other dipstcik tube, but was always leery of it eventually giving way and leaking again.
This piece is a Milodon piece, and very similar to the Lokar unit I've seen as well.
