: 99 Camaro SS 107k $9,900?
TreySmith Oct 4th, 09, 3:56 PM What do you guys think? It's at a dealer and the guy said money talks so I am sure I can get it lower. Looks nice and sounds nice, might have full exhaust and cam. Body is straight and interior is nice.
I just turned 17 so I can't test drive it unless my mom is there, so maybe Monday she will come up there with me and I can drive it around. But I started it up, revved it and it sounds amazing. Feels like it has a short throw shifter too since the gears are so close.

Seems a little high.
KBB shows retail being $6665
http://www.kbb.com/KBB/UsedCars/PricingReport.aspx?WebCategoryId=35&YearId=1999&VehicleClass=UsedCar&ManufacturerId=9&Condition=Excellent&ModelId=368&PriceType=Retail&VehicleId=5124&Mileage=107000&SelectionHistory=5124|31562|77040|0|0|
Rerun the info through KBB as I may have mised something.
TreySmith Oct 4th, 09, 4:10 PM Yep, and yeah it does look a little high but I am sure if I made a cash offer of whatever he would accept it.
I hope nobody buys it before I do, because I am selling my baby for it. Tired of all this old crap..

TreySmith Oct 4th, 09, 4:16 PM Note my edit. I don't really look much at KBB pricing anymore since it isn't very accurate, otherwise my 1995 V6 Camaro with 146,500k miles is worth $4625. I would be happy to get $2500 for it.
I would think it's worth about $8,000-$8,500.
Alwhite00 Oct 4th, 09, 4:50 PM You might want to check on insurance gefore you pull the trigger. Looks like a nice car, Did you sell yours already?

plus i hate to see young guys get stuck financing rides, you have a long life in front of you, fix up the firebird, there is plenty of time for toys, and better deals will come... Thanks for the advice but alot of those are so cheap for a reason, look at the interior on a few of those, the first one looks like it sat inside a body shop with the windows down judging by the dirt in the vents and edges. Plus a 98-02 LS1 6 speed is a must have for me. I wont settle for anything less. I made that mistake before and it still haunts me. If I got an another automatic or hard top Camaro, I wouldn't be happy with it. I know kinda sound a little spoiled but I worked hard for my money and I would hate to throw it away on something I am not happy with. My parents said this will be my last car until I move out so I want something I will enjoy for the next two years and if it is something I truley want, I don't mind paying a little extra for it. I searched high and low for my Trans Am and probably paid a little more than I should have($2500) but I love the car to death and have no regrets unlike my other car which was a 1970 Lemans. I bought that just because it was all I could afford and I have nightmares of that thing.
I know I have plenty of time for toys, that is actually why I am getting rid of the Trans Am. Like I couldn't go to the movies or foot ball games because I had to work and save money for a new transmission.
Just looking to get a clean SS or WS6 and call it quits for a long time. I will probably follow your advice and keep looking, thanks!
If I can look under the hood and see what mods it has though I will probably get it if I like what I see.

robtco99 Oct 4th, 09, 10:26 PM You can get a lot of ls1 cars for under 10k. Look around on www.ls1tech.com (http://www.ls1tech.com)
I agree that an ls1 6 speed is the only way to go. That's what I wanted but got an amazingly cheap deal on an lt1 auto and hated it in the end.... get exactly what you want. Any car with lots of mods has probably been beat pretty hard, but the only good thing is they will save you some money if you plan to do the mods anyway.
JC70SS Oct 4th, 09, 10:28 PM Seems high. Check ls1tech.com in the classifieds
TreySmith Oct 4th, 09, 10:34 PM Yeah, I have been looking on there alot. It's so hard to find exactly what you want though plus I can't drive anywhere to get it, has to be local. Right now it doesn't really matter since I need to wait for my car to sell. Hopefully tomorrow it sells, the guy couldn't come today.
sg5492 Oct 5th, 09, 9:05 PM I have a 99 SS Camaro, we love the car. We only have 7,800 miles on ours and I wouldn't take what KBB says it's worth.
TreySmith Oct 5th, 09, 9:19 PM Yeah, everyone that has one loves it from what I hear, not so much with the LT1's though for some reason.
The guy came and looked at my car today. He seems serious about the car but it will be a few weeks before he is able to buy it.
My mom is saying they won't insure the car under her insurance, they didn't even ask my age and said no so I am not sure how that is going to work. I am not going to take no for an answer so... My mom said she had to lie about the T-Tops to get my 80' insured.
Like hell I am getting a Kia
Stupid private insurance.
Alwhite00 Oct 6th, 09, 5:52 AM Yea, Kind of hard to hide a kid from insurance anymore. You might want to check on prices before pulling the trigger, That would suck to get the car and can't afford the insurance.

Unfortunately that is how insurance companies make money. When I was 21 I bought a brand new '91 5.0 Mustange GT. Car cost me about $17,000 and the insurance was $2500 a year with a perfect driving record. At the time I also had a nice 1975 Tans Am w/ 455, 4-speed, T-tops that cost me about $600 a year to insure (full coverage). They were through a private insurance company in Charleston, SC.
I'm not sure what's the deal with the LT-1 cars? I had a '93 Firehawk (51/201) that ran great and had no problem going toe to toe with most anything on the road.
Alan F Oct 6th, 09, 8:40 AM Trey, You seem like a nice young man and I love the fact that you can type in complete sentences (no sarcasm). So when I say what I'm about to say, it is with total respect to you. You have no business in an LS1 Camaro SS. Want to know how I know?
First, I live in the Houston area as well and know the weather and traffic issues.
Second, I bought a new 2000 Z28 M6 for myself as a daily driver in Nov '99 and drove it for 3 years. I modded it, but not too heavily. It also had chrome 17" SS wheels on it.
Third, I was your age once and did not respect horsepower, speed, weather or the lack of awareness of other drivers. I wrecked my '70 Mach 1 when I was 16 once and spun it on the freeway once in the rain.
Fourth, my son nearly totalled my Z28 when he was 19 (his only accident).
Suffice it to say, as an experienced driver who has had race driving instruction and amateur racing experience I about lost that car on a few occasions, especially in wet weather. I drive fast anyway and that car invites you to overdrive it. The 4th gen F bodies are also wicked in the wet (imagine driving 70 and hitting a puddle that pitches the car 35 degrees).
I currently have a 2000 Z28 Convertible A4 which is totally stock and just a fair weather cruiser. I bought it locally, needing some minor cosmetic items, for ~$6,600. IMO the car you are looking at is overpriced for the mileage it has.
Your days will come. Just don't need to push it. Pace yourself.
ulySSes Oct 6th, 09, 10:19 AM I had an '02 and loved it, but sold it to get into an "old piece of crap." ;)
Take your time and look around ls1tech, there are much better deals over there.
Highway Star Oct 6th, 09, 10:31 AM That car is a rip-off. Better than 100k miles? Keep your T/A dude. ;)
For real.

Your days will come. Just don't need to push it. Pace yourself. Yeah, these cars are pretty bad in the rain, I have a 95 V6 Camaro as my DD and even with that it can get pretty squirrely. I drove the Trans Am once in the rain and it was probably one of the worst moments I have had driving, if your foot slips, that car is gone, luckily I was on a side street haha. It has a shift kit so it kicks going into second which is not a good combination in the rain.
I live in Pearland so luckily I don't have to worry about the horrible inner city and beltway traffic. It's an easy drive to school and work.
I am really not much of a speed demon, I will haul ass from a light every now end then but going 130+mph on I-10 or something never really interested me. Thankfully I never picked up that bad habbit.
If I get this car I will probably take an advanced driving course or start doing Autocross. It's something I always wanted to do but never had the right car to do it with.
73guna Oct 7th, 09, 1:30 AM My buddy bought a 98ss last year for $13,000.
19,000 mile 6 spd, tight as can be and powerful.
I think he stoled it for that price.
I'd keep looking.
Your mom is a brave lady for putting you under her insurance ;).
TreySmith Oct 7th, 09, 9:14 PM I have found a few more on Autotrader, but for some reason the Pewter SS stands out to me the most. There is a nice red T/A but my friend already has a red 02 WS6 and for some reason I don't like red on Trans Am's.. I have been putting off calling the insurance companies, I figure I will call Friday if my car sells.
Can my mom have a policy with a separate company than mine?
JC70SS Oct 7th, 09, 11:57 PM no they will find it. Underwriters are like the FBI.
73guna Oct 8th, 09, 1:23 AM Trey,
My brother is an insurance adjuster. Sometime back he mentioned a way parents can get thier kids insured without all the "bad" things young drivers do going against the parents policy.
I'll call him tomorrow and ask.
SOM2001SS Oct 8th, 09, 4:12 PM That price is pretty steep. The 1998-2000s are a little less desirable because they do not have the LS6 intake manifold, Z06 clutch and a few other pieces that the 2001-02 cars came with. Absolutely take that bra off and inspect the car to make sure it's not covering up any damage or paint issues. I probably would not give more than $7,500 for a '98-2000 LS1 car w/ over 100K miles.
They are awesome cars though. One piece of advice though; NEVER floor it unless your front wheels are pointed straight. The backend will come around faster than you would believe!

My friend's brother might sell me his 02' 35th LE car for $10,000. It has like 70k miles and has the 6 speed. The problem is they are smokers but the car is all stock and never beat on. It's also #16 of however many were made.
There are a few more on Autotrader though, just need to sell my T/A first.

Being in Texas (Houston) you should be able to find a restorable, possibly even running very solid Chevelle body a bit west of you, maybe in the central or western part of the state. Just something to consider.
317millhand Oct 9th, 09, 10:39 AM with that mileage the car should be selling for $6500 to $7000 not a dollar more. I have had a few of these cars as well as ws6 trans ams. Just keep looking and save the extra 2 or 3 grand for some performance upgrades.
TreySmith Oct 9th, 09, 10:16 PM I just sold my car today, I have $9100 now. I wanted to cry haha. I miss it but I know I wont regret it once I am cruising around in an SS or something.
ulySSes Oct 9th, 09, 10:22 PM Congrats on the sell. Too bad you didn't keep it. It was sweet and GL on whatever you decide on next.
TreySmith Oct 12th, 09, 8:10 PM Turns out the SS wasn't sold, I went and looked at it again. The manager is holding the car for me and my mom and I are going to go pick it up tomorrow. I am so excited.
I popped the hood and the car has long tubes. I might try to get ahold of the previous owner to see what's all done to it.
Alwhite00 Oct 12th, 09, 8:21 PM You didn't pay what they wanted did you? Lots of people thought it was overpriced, Just curious. Nice car, Just seemed a little expensive.

TreySmith Oct 12th, 09, 8:35 PM $8,500 and trading in my camaro. He said he couldn't go any lower because they had to have the window motors replaced and a few other minor things also, the price is actually $10,500 now. But he said $8,500 includes TTL with trade in. Not too bad considering I only paid $1,000 for my camaro and I am getting a $2500+ trade in. He would have accepted $9,000 + TTL but the repairs threw that off.
I am still not sure what the final price is. He said just come up there tomorrow with my mom and we can actually talk the price over.
Highway Star Oct 12th, 09, 8:47 PM You'd better talk some price man. More you talking than him. He is trying to take you for a ride. No pun intended.
TreySmith Oct 12th, 09, 9:03 PM I know, hopefully we can talk another $500 off, that would bring it to $8,000.
I can't believe how much TTL is, holy crap.
pnugene Oct 12th, 09, 9:04 PM You'd better talk some price man. More you talking than him. He is trying to take you for a ride. No pun intended.
X2. Trey, this guy wants to soak you for every dime he can get. I think this salesman has picked up on your enthusiasm for this car, and he's reeling you in without having to set the hook. Take a look again at the posts in this thread and offer the guy about a thousand less than the consensus here. That should be YOUR starting point. You only have one advantage here, you have CASH, so he can't stick it to you on financing. He's got a LOT of room to dicker on price, but he wants you to think he doesn't. It's your money, and you don't have to pay his asking price. If he won't negotiate, you really oughtta man up and walk away. There's lots of cars out there to catch your eye, you've fallen in love with this one and he knows it.
AmericanMuscle Oct 12th, 09, 9:10 PM $8,500 and trading in my camaro. So you are saying that the dealer raised the price on you and you are willing to pay it?:noway:
IMO $8,500 is still too much for that car WITHOUT your camaro on trade-in. Times are tough and there is no way that Camaro is going anywhere at that price. I know getting a new car is very exciting, but it is no reason to waste money AND lose another one of your cars. I hope I am not coming off as rude, but I believe you are getting screwed. There are PLENTY of other Camaro's out there, just give it some time.
Highway Star Oct 12th, 09, 9:10 PM He bought the car for 5 AT THE MOST.
If I understand this right, you are giving him your black car AND more $ for this pewter camaro?
Dude. :noway:
Sell your car outright. Get the $ and go buy a car from a private party.
How hard has that thing been whomped on in its life? It has the aftermarket parts to prove it.
TreySmith Oct 12th, 09, 9:13 PM Thanks guys, I guess I will see what happens tomorrow. I do have one advantage though, I took a peek under the bra when he was with another customer and noticed alot of spider cracking plus the scuff on the left head light. I will bring it up tomorrow when we talk money. It's nothing for me to worry about since I work at a body shop, I can have it fixed for like $50.
And no, I am not trading in the black car, I sold it Friday for $8500. I am trading in my V6 Camaro.
But yeah, I will give y'all the news tomorrow. I test drove a nice 02 Z28 with 100k miles with only exhaust for $7,000, so I am not afraid to walk away.
AmericanMuscle Oct 12th, 09, 9:20 PM I am not afraid to walk away
:hurray::hurray: That is absolutely the mentality you should have.:hurray::hurray:
Make sure this dealer knows that tomorrow. DO NOT let him get the better of you, and tell him there is no way in hell he is getting your 6 cylinder at ANY price.
Highway Star Oct 12th, 09, 9:28 PM I was confused for a minute, sorry. :beers:
grandsport Oct 12th, 09, 9:31 PM Just go in there with a take it or leave it attitude tomorrow. As said before the worst thing you can do is let the dealer know you love the car, believe me I know..I find it really hard to believe the dealer has much more than $6k in a 100k mile Camaro In my opinion the 6 figure clock knocks the crap out of that car.If I had that car and someone offered me $7500 for it I would say bye bye Camaro.
pnugene Oct 12th, 09, 9:37 PM Good advice Gary:thumbsup:
grandsport Oct 12th, 09, 9:40 PM And that is $7500 with no trade.:yes:Sell your old Camaro yourself.
TreySmith Oct 12th, 09, 9:48 PM Here are some more pictures of the car, I wish I wouldn't have fell in love with it haha, I can't want to test drive it tomorrow. He did say I could keep my stereo out of my Camaro for some reason($200)..
Man, I do miss my Trans Am though.

Save a few more dollars and buy the '02. It's a better car and motor than the '99. Plus there were only 3000 or so built.
Buy some good carpet cleaner and scrub the heck out of the interior and put some Bounce sheets in it to get rid of the smoke smell.
Kurt

the first thing to make sure when you find a car is to NEVER get excited about it until it is in your hands. There are TONS out there, expecially being a camaro.
lets put it this way. My buddy has a 2002 SS camaro, that 30th anniversary one (I think it was that, the same one your buddy has). In black with a red interior (it was special edition) with a beautiful exhaust and flawless body. He sold it for 6k with under 150k on it. That is here in Canada where prices are always inflated. I would say keep looking. Private sales are the way to go if you want to have a better chance at bargaining:yes:

the first thing to make sure when you find a car is to NEVER get excited about it until it is in your hands. True:yes: Back in 1998 I sold my car to buy a truck, I went to a dealer and found a used truck that was just what I was looking for (color,interior,etc..) I was talking with a salesman that was new. He had to write his name on someone else's card. I told him that is the truck I have been looking for and that I'm buying a truck today so give me your best deal. He didn't even come off the price  So I went down the street and bought a new 98 Z71 for the same price as his used 95. He called me the next day and wanted to know if I was ready to pick the truck up  I told him that I left him and bought a new truck and he just could not believe that I would give him one more chance.

Way to go man, The ball is in your court now. You have cash in hand and are looking for a car to buy, When you find the right deal cash talks, BS walks - Buy a car for $7-8K and you still have money left for a few mods :thumbsup:and maybe a month or two of insurance. :D
Go over to LStech and see what's in the classifieds.

What do y'all think about this WS6 for about $9,000? It has 89,000 miles. It has custom rear, custom clutch and custom exhaust.

pist0lpete Oct 13th, 09, 6:45 PM Glad to hear you walked away on that other car. That guy wanted too much as the others have mentioned. Sometimes I get the feeling that if I was 40 and I went in there (I'm 23) and tried to make a deal like you did it would work but maybe its jut me.
As far as that car above goes looks pretty good around 9000 is a good place to start might could be had for 8000. You said custom rear what is it a 12 bolt? 9 inch? Im a litter worried about the ghetto tach lite as in this car has been de-modded and had a 200 shot on it or something. I would look for signs of a former nitrous kit.
Alwhite00 Oct 13th, 09, 7:02 PM Trey, I would try and look for a stock car that some kid didn't beat the crap out of. (we will leave that up to you) I know the mods are something you want but they tend to have lived a harsher life than a stocker. Not always but usually. Even if you have to drive 250 miles it's still worth it if you get a good deal. I bought my 04 Avalanche 230 miles away and I went there after work, Bought it and drove back and made it to work the next day, Long night but I got what I wanted.

sg5492 Oct 13th, 09, 7:12 PM I'm on the fbody sites around Kansas City a lot and found this one, it needs some work but it's cheap.

I know you are in Houston but there are nice cars out there worth the money.
Like Alwhite00 said look on LStech and ls1.com and see if you can find a local fbody site that has car for sale in your area. There's 4 sites for fbodys that are just for people around Kansas City so I bet Houston has at least that many. If you run a search you will find a ton of LS1/LS2/LS6/Camaro/Firebird sites out there.

LKI found a red Z28 with 100k even miles. Bone stock except for exhaust. I test drive it yesterday and it was really nice. I got them down to $7,000 but for some reason I wasn't too enthusiastic about it.
Seeing this picture really leans me towards that T/A though. :D

www.searchtempest.com (http://www.searchtempest.com)
that site searches craigslist and ebay and autotrader by distance. put in your zip code, set some criteria, and search.
that red ws6 looks nice, but i am with LK, find a stocker and do the modifications yourself.

Good for you man! You probably left a little disappointed, but you should also feel kinda empowered too. Sales guys tend to beat up on young people and women. He probably thought you were easy pickings. In the end, you'll be glad you stuck to your guns especially when you find the right car at a good price. Don't be surprised if this guy calls you in a couple days with another offer.
X2 on finding a bone stock car, you're much more likely to find one in good condition than a car that's already been modded and rodded. Keep looking, your car is out there.

Hey Gary, not meaning to bad-mouth salesmen, one of my best friends sells for a local Chevy dealer. But those of us who've lived a few years know it's all a game. I kinda enjoy the negotiation because I show up with my best poker face, dealer cost knowledge and financing already arranged. It's nice to know you can get up and leave and shop elsewhere. You and I both know the gleam a salesman gets in his eye when the customer has fallen in love with a specific car. I still think it's a better profession than being a lawyer.:D

TreySmith Oct 13th, 09, 9:27 PM The full story is that I walked up in there and had $8,000 in $100 bills resting firmly in my hand. After a short exchange of words, I told him to kiss my ass for $12,000 on a wrecked SS with 107k. Yeah, the priced was raised.
Haha his expression was priceless.
If everything checks out and you guys are ok with it, I will probably just pick up the red WS6.
This is the Z28 I looked at Monday. I figured after I bought new rims, tires and a hood/spoiler it would just be better to get the WS6. The tires were shot on it.
But I will leave that between you guys, what would y'all choose?

I've got a 6 speed 99 Z28 with t-tops for sale. The Z28's got 106k miles on it, runs and drives excellent, i hate to get rid of it really, but i want a truck. Its mainly stock other than a lid and exhaust. I put LT1 style tail lights on it and a custom front grille. I also put in a pioneer cd player with ipod hookup. It's got a short throw shifter and it's lowered about 1.5 inches on an eibach prokit i believe. The wheels are ZR1's 9.5 in the front and 17x11 in the rear. It's got an adjustable panhard bar in the rear to keep the axle centered. The interior is in good shape with just the usual wear on the drivers seat like most f-bodies. Asking $8000 obo. Let me know if you're interested. TimS3369@aol.com

AmericanMuscle Oct 13th, 09, 10:36 PM Wow, welcome to the new Camaro classifieds.l:)
Seriously, though, as you can see from Highway Star's posts, there are plenty of Camaro's out there for ya.
Highway Star Oct 13th, 09, 10:41 PM There are lots of fish in the sea, see? :D
I'd be all over that white one with the orange stripes. That thing is FINE!!!
When you use searchtempest it is hard to get a link or url to paste in here, but for some reason the whole ad pastes in fine. well, except TC has a 10-image-limit on a single post so i could only put one ad per post.
there were 6 pages of camaros in the houston CL, and i didnt even search firebirds.
keep looking man.
TreySmith Oct 13th, 09, 10:44 PM Yeah, but I am very picky! :D Most of those are auto's or have ridiculous miles.
Probably going to get the red WS6. It's exactly what I want and at the right price. M6, T-top, already modded and it's under 100k miles(89 to be exact).. Plus it's a 30 minute drive. That will leave me $2500 after I sell the Camaro for rims, mods or whatever it needs. Some pocket change would sure me nice for once :)..
JC70SS Oct 14th, 09, 12:00 AM just get a WS6! I am a little biased. don't get a Z28 you'll always want the SS or Ws6.

listen to this man...capeesh:cool: lol
TreySmith Oct 18th, 09, 5:56 PM I went to look at the red T/A and they would not budge from $10,000.. They wouldn't even let me start it.
Can't believe how hard it is to find a car lol.
Still considering the Z though, $7,500 after TTL.. Sounds pretty inviting.
rak1 Oct 19th, 09, 11:23 AM It's your money so get what you want but be careful. If I were you I would wait until winter hits and these people get more desperate to sell their cars. Just remember time is on your side.
TreySmith Oct 19th, 09, 7:12 PM I drove the Red Trans Am today, man that car is freakin' fast. If I punch it in second it will spin the tires. It's not obnoxiously loud either which is nice and the body is very nice. There is a scratch here and there but it will all buff out. There was one small dent under the antenna but that's it. Everything works electrically also.
I love that car so much, I am hopefully going to get it tomorrow if no one buys it before me, pray for me guys.
I am going to give them $8,500 cash and pay the rest within 3 months, basically under the table. She said she could not budge on the price at all, the only reason she said it was so cheap now is because someone put $4,000 down and didn't make their first payment so the car was repo'd.. Final price is $10,200 after taxes.
I talked to several people that worked at dealers and they all said go for it. It's priced about where it should be and it's really clean. I got a carfax also and everything checked out.
She also said she put in an $800 racing clutch since the old one was a little spongy since it's a high performance car, she actually knew what she was talking about when she explained the car to me.

Do what makes you happy Trey. But take it from a fellow youngster who has dealt with this x100 by now. YOU DICTATE WHAT HAPPENS! it all shows in your attitude and the way you talk/carry yourself. Don't let them BS you into "the only reason it is this cheap is because...."
be weary buddy, always be weary!
but hey if you like and get it have fun;)
TreySmith Oct 19th, 09, 7:16 PM I love the car, it's got the miles I am looking for, the manual tranny, Trans Am with RAM AIR(That was the deal breaker for me) and is FAST plus it's at the price I can afford.
Alan F Oct 19th, 09, 10:03 PM Maybe you know this, maybe you don't. If you sign a contract with them to pay the remainder of the money, you better not miss a single term (not just payment) because instead of having $4,000 they will have $12,500 (the original $4 plus your $8.5) when they repo it. If it is with a small car lot, there is NO WAY I would buy it on terms - Cash and carry only. They want you to default. Good Luck!
TreySmith Oct 19th, 09, 10:15 PM My grandpa or dad would back me so I am not worried, but I am going to be responsible and pay it so it shouldn't matter. I put my Camaro up for sale and I am going to sell it and pay the remainder as soon as I get the cash so I don't have to deal with it.
My mom would shoot me if I didn't make my payment because it affects her.
The lady trusts me enough to not need full coverage haha.
Alwhite00 Oct 20th, 09, 5:58 AM Man, From the other ads I have seen on here that seems high for that car. But if it makes you happy and that's what you want go for it. Any way your dad could front you the remainder so you wouldn't have to deal with the car lot financing?
LK
Highway Star Oct 20th, 09, 8:03 AM Final price is $10,200 after taxes.
That is VERY high, man.

Bad move dude, don't do it.
She said she could not budge on the price at all, the only reason she said it was so cheap now is because someone put $4,000 down and didn't make their first payment so the car was repo'd..
Yeah, and she's hoping the same thing happens with you.;)
She also said she put in an $800 racing clutch since the old one was a little spongy since it's a high performance car, she actually knew what she was talking about when she explained the car to me.
Likely story. :confused::boring:
I love that car so much
You weren't supposed to do that again, remember? :)
chevele72 Oct 20th, 09, 12:01 PM We have an '02 35th Anniversary Z-28 loaded. I got it for my wife for her 40th (all black) Bday. As it ends up we don't drive it much at all, it only has 23k on it. Mostly from HR Power Tours.
When we got our son a truck ( he was 16) they wanted to know if he would be driving the Z, because it had a "death rate" on it for kids under 25. He's 21 now and still hasn't driven it, not for lack of trying!
Be carefull!!!!
FWIW, Jody
sg5492 Oct 20th, 09, 5:32 PM The lady trusts me enough to not need full coverage haha.
Bad idea, if someone hits you and and they DON'T have insurance you will have to pay to fix your car if it's not totaled. You might get your money back from them after it's been to court but that could take a year or more.
Trust me, it happened to me when I was in High School. A guy hit my car in the parking lot and gave the cop false insurance info  I paid to fix my car and my insurance company took them to court. It was over a year before I was paid back.
A QUIK 1 Oct 20th, 09, 6:35 PM 2000 WS6 Trans Am 6spd - $8995

TreySmith Oct 20th, 09, 7:30 PM I am not sure if I am going to get the red T/A, my mom said I have to pay cash so I need to sell my camaro first.
Found two more though.. Figure I could just buy the black one for $6,000 and put $4,000 in mods..

chevelless502 Oct 20th, 09, 8:32 PM I havnt been into posting on here cause i will just tell you what everyone else already has but of everything you have brought up its all really priced WAY over what they are worth. If you are wanting a "fast" car and thats all you are interested in then go over to www.ls1tech.com (http://www.ls1tech.com) and look there. You will get a car from a guy who knows what he has done to it instead of some dealer trying to push something off on you. There is some VERY good buys over on LS1tech right now.
At the end of August i bought a 98 Z28, granted it was an automatic but it was a one owner car with only 87,000 miles on the clock. I walked out the door with it for $4000. Right now the LS1 based cars are NOT selling at all for many reasons. No one can get financing on a car that old and insurance on a young guy is a killer.
You have had alot of people here try to give you advice. Good luck with what you decide to do.
Andy
TreySmith Oct 21st, 09, 7:00 PM Just found an SS for $5,000. I just emailed them, hopefully it's a manual.

http://houston.craigslist.org/ctd/1431876053.html
try to find a private seller.
look at a price a little higher than what your willing to pay
talk it down in person,
cash talks bs walks.
I would stray from dealers if possible as I would assume (not too sure) that there is less bargaining room. As Mike Crown once told me, dealers always need to make a profit on what they are selling, so remember that.
138car Oct 22nd, 09, 9:56 AM I found this 2000 SS you might like

andrew T Oct 25th, 09, 10:40 AM was that from a dealer?
how much did you pay for it and what shape is it in bodywise, etc?
as long as your happy thats all that matters!
I wish I could find a car that fast:sad:
TreySmith Oct 25th, 09, 10:46 AM Payed $10,000 out the door from a dealer. Car is literally perfect, only one small dent right below the antenna. Interior is perfect, drivers seat barely shows any wear.
Not too bad but it was exactly what I wanted and in mint condition plus these cars are a bitch to find, so I didn't mind paying a little more for it at all. I feel I made the right choice and I love everything about it! Now I just home State Farm didn't F' us over on the insurance.

sg5492 Oct 25th, 09, 6:47 PM Since you can't drive it until Tuesday, you might want to check it out and see if it has the 5 free mods yet.
http://www.gmhightechperformance.com/tech/0311htp_ls1_fbody_10_free_modifications/index.html
I don't think all 5 are listed on that site but you can do a search on just about any LS1 site and find them.
Alwhite00 Oct 25th, 09, 8:05 PM Nice looking car, How many miles? Any mods on it? As far as insurance goes, Hopefully you saved some money for lube. :D
LK
TreySmith Oct 25th, 09, 8:33 PM Just hit 90,000 as it rolled into the drive way. Has a cat back, intake and I am not sure what else. It is a hell of alot faster than the cat back 02 z28 I drove though. We got it up to 120 quickly during the test drive.
Tommya77 Oct 26th, 09, 2:09 AM You did good son, I only buy blackbook. Kelly and nada are crap and only for resale. Always go with black book if your buying.
Year: 2002 Make: Pontiac Model: Firebird Trans Am Coupe WS6 Excellent: $18,150 Good: $12,100 Fair: $8,700
Enjoy the car, and please at your age becareful. That is a fast car and will get you killed quick. Stupid to go 120 in a car your just testing out.
Best of luck,
Tommy
TreySmith Nov 7th, 09, 9:56 PM I wasn't driving, the lot owner was. I have had alot of fun with the car so far though, I do kinda wish I would have bought another project car but whatever, parent's wouldn't let me.. I miss my old T/A alot though, I want another sooo bad.
Anyways I just wanted to post up the little $2300 gem I found hiding under the car, It basically turned this $9500 car into a $7200 car, so I guess I didn't do so bad after all. :D
Almost tempted to rip it out, sell it and buy another 2nd Gen but the step dad said no more cars..
If you guys don't know what you are looking at, it's a Strange/Moser 12 bolt rear.

exactly
664spd454 Nov 8th, 09, 9:49 AM Nice car:hurray: One question though? How did you not see the Moser rear end? One other thing do you think the gearing is why this one is faster then the others?
TreySmith Nov 8th, 09, 11:45 AM Nice car:hurray: One question though? How did you not see the Moser rear end? One other thing do you think the gearing is why this one is faster then the others?Idk, I thought that but would I be able to cruise on the highway 85mph at 1800rpm?
I looked under it but I guess it didn't stand out the first time. We were messing with the car at school and I was like "damn, that's a pretty mean looking rear end."
EDIT: Actually it might have 4.11's, I just hope it's set up for them if it is.
Oh yeah, the 99 SS is still sitting out there lol
pist0lpete Nov 17th, 09, 4:03 AM Get rid of that chokemaster exhauast ASAP! Flowmaster makes a decent muffler I even have them on my chevelle but the crossflow muffler they have for F-bodies flows terribly.
