: i think i want a battery cutoff/kill switch for security
bobj_70 Oct 4th, 09, 4:09 PM for extra security if i'm leaving it sit for a period of time. But i know nothing about how to install one.
The battery is in the stock location, and i don't want a switch to be visible, but easy to get too without having to open the hood. Also simple is better (electrical wise)
Can anyone link me to the type of switch to use, and maybe a tutorial or help in doing it?
72sbc427 Oct 4th, 09, 6:46 PM You can use a Ford starter solenoid. Hide it where ever you want. Run the battery wire to it, then to the starter like normal. Then you can run a small gauge power wire to some where in the car for a toggle switch, with a return wire running back to the solenoid.
Another option. Put a horn relay in the power wire to the distributor with a toggle switch connected to it from where ever you want to hide. This will make it turn over and crank, but it won't start. By the time they figure it out the motor would most likely be flooded.
CapSS92 Oct 5th, 09, 5:20 AM Use a Cole Hersee latching relay part umber 24200. Hide it somewhere towards the frame and then hook up the battery to one side. On the other side hook up the wire to the starter. One the front of the relay are two terminals. Hook up one to constant power and the other end to a momentary switch that will switch to ground when pushed. Viola!! Power can be cut on or off with the push of a button and you can hide it anywhere. I've used this on several cars and it works great. I buy the relays for $40 at the local 18 wheeler parts dealer. Watson Streetworks sells the same part for $100. Look at http://www.colehersee.com/pdf/H-Relays.pdf for a diagram on the relay. HTH.

brimac Oct 7th, 09, 12:58 AM I use a F__d style solenoid, in the starter circuit, with a relay ... controlled by a hidden switch. Also, I use a separate hidden mini toggle for the ignition. And, I've improvised a way to lock the pull mechanism, to keep the hood locked, but it's an exercise to do.

........did this on my son's car, will also be on mine when it's finished. I wired a relay into the feed to the HEI....mounted the toggle switch on the inside leg of the bucket seat (next to the trans tunnel). Sit in the car - nonchalantly drop your hand down to the side of the seat to flip the toggle, and start the car......repeat when parking the car. Anyone watching wouldn't notice what you were doing.
cuisinartvette Oct 7th, 09, 2:14 PM I made an ign cutout that ran to a tiggle switch, mounted it under the shifter boot so it could be felt but not seen. Sure someone could eventually find it but it would take awhile.
Couple that with a hood lock, maybe a fuel cutout valve plumbed inline and they most likely will give up...or tow it. :p
meesh Oct 8th, 09, 6:30 PM Toggle switch mounted to the left of the parking brake lever on the mount. Tie into the tach wire.

or you could cutoff power to your distributor.
X3 It will cost you less than $10.00 and you will have the same result. Small toggle switch can be hidden anywhere. In addition you may want to get a braided cable and lock and physically lock the hood down. A cutoff switch can be bypassed if someone can get the hood up and get to engine compartment.
