Hi all, nice forum. I have been doing some searching trying to answer a question but have not been able to come up with a definitive answer. I am trying to figure out how the front frame area (in front of firewall) varies in width and shape from 64 through 72, and additionally how these A-body frames compare to the G-body in the same respects. As I understand it, the A-body frame was widened 1" in front (as measured between A-arm mounts) in 68 to give the cars extra track width. That's the only sure thing I could find though. I have also seen suggestions that the 66-67 frame is wider than 64-65 but I can't confirm it. And how does all this relate to the G-body? Anyone know anything more on the subject? Thanks.

Thanks. What you have heard sounds about right to me. In the 68-72 models, the width was increased and the wheelbase was decreased as compared to the 66 & 67 year models. But why would you need to know how any of that compares to a G-body car? What I mean is, what does any of that have to do with G-bodies? Don't tell me that you're contemplating using the front part of an A-body frame to weld it onto the rear part of a G-body frame.

What about the 64-65 cars compared to 66-67 -- were there changes? I am researching this information because I own a set of $1600 custom built headers for a G-body, in which one tube goes around the frame rail, and I'd like to find out if they're likely to fit a 66-67 A-body, since I am thinking about building an A-body instead of the '79 Malibu I already have. From the pictures I've seen, the two frames look a hell of a lot alike, but pictures can be deceiving.
