I am currently having a '67 Chevelle SS clone built and was wondering what color to paint the dash/glovebox? The exterior is going to be black, so it's a no brainer that the dash be black too, but I've see a few cars that have a flat or satin finish on the dash and was wondering if anyone knows exactly what color it is. Would like to use the original black instead of going with a shiney black like the exterior. Thanks in advance for any help!! Ernie

upper dash by the windshield is supposed to be 0% gloss while the rest of thei interior is 60% gloss. They didn't use gloss to reduce glare and I'd guess finger prints too. Some companies sell it ready to shoot and others add a "flattening agent" to the paint. I've shot straight black lacquer for the 60% gloss and added flattener for the 0 gloss.

Thanks shovel... The guy that is building my car was going to paint the interior with the same PPG paint that he was using on the exterior. I don't know about the shiney black thing going on in the interior.

What about the area just above the door panel? Is it supposed to be 60% gloss too, or will it be the same as the exterior? Thanks

Interior metal was not full gloss. You have to remember that lacquer shot at full gloss 40 years ago and even today is NOT the same as full gloss urethane. If you ever shot a panel or an entire car with lacquer you would see the difference immediately. Back then they were shot and reflowed to achieve gloss level and finish uniformity. If origionality is one's goal flattening agent can be added to the paint of your choice to achieve the gloss level required. All the interior codes are available. PPG 9266 of the top orf my head, among many others.
