: Does anyone have this Craftsman dial back timing light?

Any idea how accurate the dial back feature is? I bought a cheaper brand version like this and it was horribly inaccurate (almost 10 degrees off) so it went back to the store. I'd like to have a dial back light, just want an accurate one without spending a fortune.

Also keep in mind that if you are running an MSD ignition system, MSD does not recommend using any type of dial back light. I would think that this would be true with any type of multi spark ignition.
Rich-L79 Oct 2nd, 09, 11:38 PM How to check it? Easy.
With it set to zero, check the timing, let's say it reads 16 degrees BTDC on the balancer. Then, without changing anything on the engine, dial it to 16 advance and see where it reads. It better read zero on the balancer or the calibration isn't right. Would you buy a tool like this and just assume it's accurate?
No MSD on any of my cars. I bought a Pertronix Second Strike for the wagon but I never installed it. The instructions with that unit state that the multiple spark feature needs to be turned off (easy to do on this unit) to set the timing accurately.

doc j Oct 5th, 09, 12:26 PM Had a chrome one for a few years, but noticed the mark would bounce around if the dial wasn't on 0 (flaky pot.). Bought a digital Equus light 4 years ago and it's worked like a charm.
