I was looking at the cowl tag on the 65 and this just doesn't sound right.
For paint is shows D, as far as I can tell that is Mist Blue...but on the inside it shows 772 Red
Can that be right?
Also I know it was built in Fremont, does anyone know how to find the build date on these cars? After Z it's 161796.

Ken. If the D is directly after the 772, What you have is (772) Medium Red Ramada Cloth, Imitation Leather (bench) (D) Red Interior Trim. The paint code will be 3 letters after "PAINT". The first 2 will be upper/lower colors, The third will be wheel color.

Your build date will be in the upper left corner. on the same line as "Detroit Michigan" and be a number (month) and letter (week)

With a sequence number of 161796 it would indicate an early August, 1965 car. The last reported sequence number for Fremont in July of 1965 was 161660 - http://www.chevellestuff.com/1965/plant_prod_no.htm

Others have hit the trim/paint info but here's a mid-July Fremont tag showing a trim code of 714 (black buckets) and the E indicates black paint on interior components while the exterior paint color is YY for Crocus Yellow. FWIW, Fremont was the only Chevelle plant to include the interior paint color on the trim tag and only did it in 1965.
