: 17" coys
scuddy Sep 30th, 09, 8:32 PM spoke with coy wheels yesterday.told me that the 17 by 9.5 c5 would not be made until after the new year and probably not available till feb or march.
these are the wheels i kinda hoped to buy for the rear but now i need a new gameplan.
i liked the narrow spoke of the c5 compared to the foose legend or tt2 but now back to square one.
there are other wheels such as the boss338 but i cannot get the correct backspacing on those wheels.
can anyone reccomend a similar wheel with 9 or 9.5" width and 5.5" backspacing?
thanks
paul
musclecarjohn Sep 30th, 09, 8:46 PM Have you looked at Rocket...?
I think their 9" wheel only has 5.25" b/s but I'm not certain. Also, the spokes on the Booster may not be as thin as you'd like, still a cool looking wheel.

69SS3964Spd Sep 30th, 09, 9:31 PM I like these and have been thinking about buying a set. They look like the Coys C-55 but are cheaper (17x9.5 is $144 vs. $175 at Coys)and they have free shipping most of the time!

I have the 17s in the front and 18s in the rear.

scuddy Oct 1st, 09, 10:05 AM yes-the 18" is something to consider- its just i have a hard time considering that big a wheel on a muscle car.
i thought the 17" would be a good compromise between old school and ghetto.
i have to admit that anytime i see 18's on chevelles they look great.
i am more conservative than i thought.

You would have to run an 18" wheel to get the 9" width as I didn't see a 17x9 offered by Rocket. Zero offset on a 9" width would be 5" backspace so the 5.25" backspace offered on the 18x9 should work fine. If you wanted a tire with some height and sidewall,a 285/40/18 would probably work.
Very nice wheels!

Yeah, saw that too Clint...not certain why these offshore wheels aren't offered in better sizing for our cars since they target them as their customer base.:noway:

Maybe some of them are one-piece,John. That might explain it. I've ordered a pair of 20x10 Boss Motorsports 338's and I'm almost positive they're one-piece since they only come in a 6.81" backspacing (5x4.5 bolt circle)

I'm assuming 18x9.5 rear and 17x8 front? What size tires and is your car lowered any? Good job.
69SS3964Spd Oct 3rd, 09, 11:22 PM On my Monte, I have 17x8's w/4" bs and 255's up front and 18x10's w/6" bs and 295's on the rear. The car is lowered in the rear a little and I need to lower the front to get the look I want. These fit with no issues whatsoever and a Monte has less outer lip clearence on the rear than any of the 68-72 Chevelles.

Let us know how well the fronts fit after you lower it.

They fit great on the front. I weighed down the front end to where I want to lower it and it cleared turning the wheels left and right and bouncing the car. The suspension will also be stiffer when I lower it so it will not have as much give in it as it does right now.
DrededSS Oct 4th, 09, 10:57 PM I got mixed answers from Coy's when I called about the 17x9.5's. One person said they would be out next year, but another said they were thinking about not making them at all.
I went with C-5's in 18x8 and 18x9.5.

I have this exact same predicament, I wanted the gun metal coys in 17x9.5. That looks great with the 18's in the back and I had thought about it before but wasn't sure. Does that noticeably raise the back of the car?

The wheels don't affect the ride height. The tire size determines that. The 275/40-18s measure 26.6" in diameter.
DelCamino Oct 13th, 09, 11:57 PM what tires are those with the red stripe?
Scotch Oct 14th, 09, 11:26 AM what tires are those with the red stripe?
I'm pretty sure they're the Nitto NTRD1 Redlines. Pretty sweet tire, but sizes were limited and I read where it's been discontinued. Too bad- I love the look!

pritchard1970 Oct 14th, 09, 6:27 PM I just ordered one front model- old school 17x8 in dark grey... From discount tire direct to see what it looks like and see how it will fit with the baer brakes...can't beat the price, they said if i don't like i can send it back with no restocking fee. I hope not to have to and order the other front and the two rears will be 17x9.5
cuisinartvette Oct 14th, 09, 10:20 PM more and more Im liking those Coys, man I wish I could afford a set, havent even picked up my 15s yet. A bud has a 70 Ranchero that is slammed with a set on- the lips on those look SOOOO good. Polished lip with plain grey cast centers and 315s in the rear...:(

Agreed, not a fan of 18s but that car looks perfect, right stance and tire combo. Low profile but not the rubber band look either.
Nice work!

Good to hear from you,Stu. I just got married last week so finances will be a little tight for awhile but I'm trying to decide between a 65 or 69 El Camino for my next protouring build. Kinda leaning towards a 65,at the moment.
Congrats Clint!
Carry on.....
