Is this plate real or fake? Saw it on Ebay yesterday as a real NOS plate. I did some reading on the this forum but still not sure. Been looking for one for the Chevelle.

1969 El Camino Dan Sep 29th, 09, 9:54 PM I bought some GM licensed repros off of eBay - they have small printing on the lower edge below the border. That area is also white, like the field.
I took some fine sandpaper and a little solvent and that was gone.
I'm happy, you'd never know it wasn't original.
I think these came out in the 1970s didn't they?

Lilracr Sep 30th, 09, 8:19 AM Can someone actually post up a real one?
I have one on the front of my 65' and as far as I know it's a real one. It has been around the garage for atleast 25 years. I also have one I bought in the mid 90's that is very cheap looking.

The Bug Man Sep 30th, 09, 3:39 PM I have a for real, original issue, on my 69 SS. The metal is much thicker than a repop and it has a green color on the back. As described in the other responses the paint and lettering are slightly different also, but from 10 ft away who can tell...
69 Post Sedan Sep 30th, 09, 5:49 PM I bought this one that is on my car now about 25 years ago from a Champion Auto store.

Trev/blk/'70 Oct 10th, 09, 11:13 PM I believe that one to be real towards the top, these weren't put on til after 72' though. I thought any of the plates with the smaller oval holes were OEM and all of the elongated hole tags were repros. I do know that the taking charge red, white, and blue ones are original for sure and the blue is a metallic reflective type color. Trevor
