I am looking for a 402 for my 70 Chevelle SS and found this on Craigslist. It is a "CTW code out of Camaro, Nova or Chevelle. Block casting date of 3/5/70. 10 1/4 to 1 compression ratio, high volume oil pump, oil baffle in pan, 3 angle valve job, 2.19 intake, 1.88 exhaust, Competition Cams 526 lift, 280 duration, double roller chain, polished lifter valley, roller rockers. Edelbrock Performer intake, Holley. Very low hours, can hear run" according to the ad. It is complete less water pump, pulleys, exhaust manifolds, and flywheel. The seller wants $1800. The problem arose when they replied to my e-mail. They said it was in a jet boat.

Now, the correct engine for my car would be a CTX code, but I am not overly concerned with originality. This one just happened to be local and happens to be a 3/5/70 date code.

My question is, does the fact that it is in a boat make it less desireable? Is it even worth going to look at it? What are some problems that can arise from it being installed in a boat rather than in a car? I live in Ohio so I am going to assume it has been used only in Lake Erie, but will find out for sure if you guys say it is worth my time to go look at it. Any help is greatly appreciated.

Go listen to it run, if it doesn't knock or smoke, it can't be too bad....

Why would it matter if it came from a boat? Oddly enough that is where my 70 CTW 402 came from.

Because if they left water in it over the winter, the block could be scrap.... plus there is no corrosion protection in lake water, the block could be rusted away inside.....

Ya, I can see that.
